Japanese Fun Day

Kaori Bawden

Thank you so much for your support and for coming to watch the Japanese costume parade last Tuesday. We had a great Japanese Fun Day at St Joseph Primary School.

After the parade, students returned to each class to do the Origami Activity to make a King's crown. Grades 5 & 6s'  Origami leaders helped the junior classes while cooking assistants prepared for the Sushi activity.

Foundation, Grades 1/2 went to the Taiko (Japanese Drum) lesson, and Grades 3 to 6 are making Kendama (Japanese traditional toy) with paper cups and strings with balls. They had competitions among their class to decide to go to the grand final at the end of the day.

After the Recess, Grades 3 to 6 went to the Taiko lesson and junior classes made some Kendama to compete against their classmates. When they finished Taiko lessons, we had Sushi making activity with cooking assistants. Jack, Hudson, and Matthew went to Grades 3/4 to assist with those activities. Sofie B, Sofie P and Danika went to help Grades 1/2 class. Liam P was helping the Grades 5/6 class with Sushi sushi-making activity.

After lunch, we had a quiet activity with scratch paper and made 花火 "Hanabi" Fireworks design and we went back to the hall to do the grand final Kendama competition and announced the best costumes from each class.

Lacklan from Foundation, Eden from Grade 1/2, Leo from G3/4,  James and Olivia for Grades 5/6s, and Eli from the whole school received the best costumes awards. Well done everyone and thanks for putting your efforts into this! (I know it is a big job for the parents)

Finals for the Kendama Competitions were Jeremy and Charlee from Foundation class, Chalie and Hudson from Grade 1/2, Oliver and Lacey from Grade 3/4, Jack, Noah L, Toby, Lexi K, and Sofie B from Grade5/6s. The winner of the Grand Final was Sofie B. Congratulations, everyone, on making your own Kendama to compete against the whole school!

What an amazing Busy Fun Day it was! Thank you very much for all your contributions and support for this day.
