Mr Rohan Mitchell

On Thursday 19 September, students from five CET schools gathered at St Virgil’s College for the Southern One Day School (ODS) Online Meet and Greet Day. This event offered a wonderful opportunity for students to come together in person, engaging in a day of collaborative activities focused on raising awareness about global issues, including the challenges faced by refugees.

Throughout the day, students participated in meaningful experiences that encouraged deep reflection and discussion about these important issues. The event helped foster a sense of empathy and critical thinking, allowing students to explore how they can contribute to making a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

St Virgil’s Years 7 and 8 students participated as group leaders and worked with small groups of primary school students. We are so proud of our students and congratulate them on their ability to engage thoughtfully with complex issues, demonstrating maturity and empathy throughout the day.

The Southern ODS Online Meet and Greet Day was a memorable and impactful occasion, offering students a chance to grow intellectually while building connections that will enhance their learning moving forward.

I think the learning game was amazing, especially to see what refugees go through, how much they struggle, and how we should appreciate what we have. Kimberley

I feel guilty and sad about what refugees have to go through and I’m also shocked about what they have to do just to be safe. Overall, it was a fun experience, and I felt quite engaged throughout it. Also, I think it's great way to learn. Phoebe
