Scotsburn Campus Leaders 2024

We are extremely excited to introduce our Scotsburn leaders for 2024 - Savannah Coyle, Isla Garner and Rhylee Damaskinos. These three girls will have a lot on their plate in 2024, however we could not be happier for the campus to be in the hands of three such wonderful students. Congratulations from the entire Scotsburn community!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

What a wonderful celebration last Friday was. The campus was a buzz with so many visitors in all three classrooms. The smiles and laughs on both the students and visitor’s faces told the story of the morning and it was brilliant to see so many in the old building for morning tea. The Grandparents and Special Friends morning is always a highlight on the calendar and once again it did not disappoint.

A big thank you to everyone who brought in morning tea and an extra special thank you to Nikki who was run off her feet in the kitchen. We couldn’t have done it without you Nikki!

Scotsburn Sleepover

Thursday 7th December - Friday 8th December

Our Scotsburn sleepover is this week! Please have a good read of the following information.

  • Students will go home after school to gather their belongings and prepare for the sleepover. Students are then invited to return to school at 6pm.
  • Tea will be provided on the night along with breakfast, snacks, and lunch the following day.
  • All activities will take place within the Scotsburn Campus.
  • As an additional fun activity and experience on the night, we are going to hold a movie night, with a big screen out on the oval (this will be weather dependent). We will invite all families that wish to attend to watch the movie with us on the night. The movie will commence when the sun goes down, sometime from 8:45 pm onwards. The more the merrier!
  • Please make sure to provide consent and payment on Compass if you haven’t already.
  • Students will need pyjamas and clothes for the following day. Please send along appropriate attire. Although there will not be showers, children will need a face washer and toiletries to brush hair, and teeth and freshen up.
  • A mattress and sleeping bag/pillows etc. will also be required.
  • Students are welcome to bring along a torch and a soft toy to cuddle.
  • Please see your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Friday we will participate in a range of activities at Scotsburn. After lunch, we will pop a movie on for the children and set up some quiet activities as we know that energy levels are low at this time and tiredness can settle in. School will finish on Friday at the usual time of 3:25 pm however if you wish, you are welcome to pick up your child earlier.

School Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews

As you may be aware, end of year school reports go out on Compass this Friday, with parent teacher interviews planned for next Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Bookings are now open on Compass. The Scotsburn teachers have really enjoyed the report writing process, reflecting on all the wonderful learning and achievements of each and every student. Please take the time to read your child’s report with them over the weekend, as well as their student report comment that will also come home on Friday. The students are very excited and proud to share all that they have achieved in 2023!

Scotsburn DASH Day and CFA Water fight

Monday 11th December

Next Monday (11th December) the campus will be holding a fun day full of activities. This will be similar to the elective day that we held at the end of last year. Our Grade 5/6 students this year were involved in a community program called Dash, run by the Blue light organisation. Students developed their understanding of personal values and the importance of community, through creating community project ideas. The winning team received funding to make their ideas a reality, and thus the Dash Day is upon us.

The winning group’s themes for the day are Inclusion, Respect and Diversity, and these will be focussed on through some collaborative activities including hut building, mural painting and drumming workshops. In the afternoon, students will then participate in a water obstacle course and a water fight, with the help of the Buninyong CFA.

As part of our community connection, we are asking that students do some chores/jobs at home and bring along any pocket money they have earned doing these jobs as a donation for the huge effort our local CFA volunteers put into our community. This can be as small of a donation as you like - every bit counts.

Students will need to bring along an old set of clothes (shorts and T-shirt) that can get wet. We also recommend wearing an old pair of shoes (runners) that can get wet as thongs and crocs can get a bit dangerous when students are running around. It is also a good idea to bring along a towel to dry off with at the end of the water fight. If you have any questions, please see Ana.

There will be no cost to the students for the day.

Scotsburn 2024 Orientation Day

Tuesday 12th December

Next Tuesday (12th December) we are holding our 2024 Orientation Day at Scotsburn. All students at the Scotsburn Campus will spend the whole day with their 2024 classmates and teachers (including the new preps), participating in a range of transition activities to assist with getting ready and settled for next year.

Our Grade 6 students who are not attending their secondary school transition day will assist around the campus, particularly with Mrs Anderson and the new 2024 prep students. Any other students not attending Scotsburn in 2024 will have some activities planned for the day with Mr Walsh.

Scotsburn Christmas Shared Lunch

Thursday 14th December

As has been tradition at Scotsburn in recent years, we will hold a Christmas Shared Lunch at the Campus on Thursday 14th December. Students will not be required to bring lunch on this day, as a full Christmas lunch will be provided for the students to eat together. If there are any dietary requirements for your child, please see your child’s teacher.

We are asking for some parent volunteers on this day to assist with preparing and serving the food. If you are able to assist for an hour or so, please let your child’s teacher know.

There is no cost to families for this day - it is our gift for a wonderful year!

Scotsburn Pool Fun Day

Friday 15th December

A reminder that our pool day is on Wednesday 14th December, between 12:30pm – 2:30pm. We will be heading off to Fed Uni Pool to participate in a variety of pool activities. Students will then be treated to some pizza for lunch. If there are any dietary requirements for your child, please see your child’s teacher.

Please remember to provide consent and payment for your child to attend on Compass.

End of Year Scotsburn Christmas Concert and Picnic

Monday 18th December - 2pm - 4pm

We are now getting very close to our end of year celebrations. If you didn’t receive information notes about our Christmas concert, please check Compass and/or contact your child’s teacher. These notes have some very important information regarding the running of the event.

Just a reminder that Santa will be visiting,, and we will need all of  Santa’s helpers to assist us with this! Please see the earlier Compass message if you are unsure about this process or please see a staff member if you need help in arranging for this to happen.

Last Day of School Reminder

Wednesday 20th December

This year the last day of school is Wednesday 20th December. As we did last year, we will start the morning at the Buninyong Campus for the whole school assembly. Our Grade 6 leaders will be presenting at assembly as well as many other end of year celebrations. As it is a 1.30pm finish, we will spend the entire day at Buninyong, so please remember pick up arrangements will be at Buninyong. We will meet parents and carers in the courtyard at 1.15pm for a final campus farewell. If your child is planning to give any cards or presents at the end of the year to friends, It may be easier to do this by Tuesday 19th, as this will be our last day at the Scotsburn Campus for 2023.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

What a week! Grandparents / Special Friends Day was certainly a highlight. It was gorgeous to see everyone with their special visitor proudly showing off some of their masterpieces as well as enjoying an activity together. A huge thank you to everyone who sent along a plate of food and to Nikki (Lawson’s Mum) for assisting on the day. Our special visitors sure looked like they were having a fabulous time.

In Reading this week, we have been making text-to-text connections. This brings out some great knowledge from books students have read and how they can make connections between authors, characters, and events. You can never underestimate the love of reading and how clever students are at this age. It is truly remarkable!

In Writing, our poetry journey has continued with a big focus on rhyme. Students have been creating short rhyming poetry based on words they can rhyme to. We look forward to sharing these with you shortly.

In Maths, we have further investigated data and looked at creating questions that can be created based on the data we have found. For example,’ What is the most popular fruit in SC1, what is the difference between bananas and grapes. This week we will be learning about Chance and Probability.

Our much-anticipated Scotsburn Sleepover is this week. If you have any questions, please come and see me.

Thanks, and see you all during the week,

Ana and Kirsty.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 have done a terrific job of publishing their explorer posters throughout week 9 and 10. These are looking fantastic and will be up around the room, displayed in time for PTI’S.

It was great to see so many grandparents and special friends on Friday last week. It was lovely to see students showing their visitors around our learning environment and displaying the expectations that we aim to uphold on a consistent basis.

We have had a very special visitor this week in Coco! She has been up to mischief in SC2, feel free to pop in each morning and meet Coco. Students have been writing letters to Coco using their cursive writing practice, requesting what they would like to see her do next! So far, students have been quite persuasive.

Keep encouraging students to practise their concert items from home! It has made a super difference for those who have already.

Thanks everyone, have a great week,

Mitch.

SC3 Learning Snapshot

The excitement is building in SC3 at the moment. There is a mixture of emotions in the air, including excitement with just a little bit of nerves! This week we have continued our Writing journey, now up to publishing our Memoirs. They look brilliant and have been so well constructed by the students.

In Maths, students have been exploring chance experiments in Probability, and have also been working through creating a 5-hole mini golf course for their unit on Shape and Angles.

Our Reading has had a deep dive into questioning our reading, including using both “thin” and “think” questions to assist our comprehension.

Grandparents' day last Friday was a brilliant celebration in SC3, and the relationships students had with their special visitors was a job to see. We can’t wait for the sleepover on Thursday, as well as all of the other amazing events coming up!

Have a great week.

Jarrod

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
