Walk in my Shoes – From the Year 4 students – Enjoy!

In Year 4, we have been learning about people living with a disability. The unit is called ‘Walk in My Shoes’ and we have had a lot of fun meeting our parent volunteers. For our project we are making brochures on Canva to show our support and raise awareness about different types of disabilities in our community. By Esther (MBW).

Vicky and her amazing interpreter guided us through what it is like being deaf. This included explaining the levels of hearing impairment. She showed us some Auslan and how to say hello, please and thank-you. Vicky answered a lot of our questions! Thank-you Vicky, we enjoyed it very much. By Edie (MDB).

On the 15th of November, Ben’s mum showed the Middle School a slideshow on how to help disabled people. Ingrid works at Scope, a place where disabled people can go to get services to help them. She asked the Year 4’s a question and if they got it right there was a fidget toy prize! We had a great time with Ingrid. Did you know NDIS means National Disability Insurance Scheme? By John (MAH)

Last Wednesday, Larsen’s Mum came into our classroom to talk about Maple, her therapy dog. Maple is learning to be a therapy dog. She has to wear a yellow bandana until she finishes all of her training. Bianca talked about the school she worked at and what Maple does as a therapy dog, like going into classrooms to work with children or sitting in on Bianca's psychology appointments. Thanks a bunch to Bianca and Maple for the pleasant incursion, we hope to see you again soon! By Isabelle and Chloe (MDT)

We have a number of children at our school with Type 1 Diabetes, or who have siblings with the condition and would like to acknowledge that World Diabetes Day was last week (14/11/23). Click here to learn more.
