What a wonderful year we have had! Thank you to all the wonderful students for your enthusiasm in the art and music room this year.
A celebration of Art and Music in 2023!
In Term 1, we were busy in the art room. Students explored and experimented with art elements through creating and making. Using pastels, paint, pencils, crayons and clay. Students were able to create a variety of artworks building on their skills, techniques and processes. Students learnt about the colour wheel and monochromatic tones and experimented with mixing paint colours. Students completed their own self-portrait which was part of a whole school display. They also made their very own clay pinch bowls, which combined several elements and techniques which included painting.
In terms 2 and 3, students participated in music. Students were introduced to a variety of different music genres and music from different cultures. They used voice and instruments to sing, play and dance. Some favourite songs were Y.M.C.A, Nut Bush, Do-Re-Mi and Eye of the Tiger. Students also enjoyed learning the song and hand clapping movements to Miss Mary Mack and Down By the Banks.
Students explored sound and silence and ways of using their voices, movement, and instruments to express ideas. Students were introduced and played a variety of instruments such as the xylophone, rhythm sticks, Boomwhackers and bucket drums.
In Term 4, the students participated in dance rehearsals each week with Jared Smith in preparation for the whole school concert. The students focused in particular on rehearsing a range of dances and physical movements that were performed at the concert. They had to follow a specific, given choreography, learnt to sing new songs, stayed in time with a beat and evaluated their own and others’ movements. Students needed to also learn where to stand in correlation to their classmates, how to enter on-stage and also finish or exit from their performance.
The concert was a wonderful night!
For the last few weeks in music students have learnt Christmas songs and have been participating in fun cooperative games.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
