STEM

Ballarat Tech School

On the 6th of November the Design Team visited the Ballarat Tech School. Whilst we were there, we learnt how to use laser cutters, 3D printers as well as a range of digital technologies. We then used the technology to continue to work on our projects. Our project was based around improving trains for the future. One group created an app that uses braille to assist the vision impaired to order food on a train and the other created a way to power a train without coal or petrol. At the end of the day we pitched our ideas to the representatives from Regional Rail and they loved our ideas. They also gave us some suggestions for some improvements that we could make to our designs. Our school was rewarded for our efforts with some Ozobot coding robots.

Interschool Sports Cricket

On the 2nd of November selected Grade 5/6 students competed in the Ballarat Division Cricket. The event was held at C.E Brown Reserve in Wendouree. The girls played two games. The first game was against Black Hill Primary school. Unfortunately we lost this game, but we managed to have a win over Phoenix in the second game. The boys team won all three games against Yule Park, Phoenix and Clarendon. As a result the boys made it through to the finals and won.

As a result they represented our school last Wednesday at Regionals. Regional was held at C E Brown Reserve. During the round robin the boys played Alfredton, Saint Pat’s Stawell and Sacred Heart. The boys won three out of the four games which allowed them to play in the finals.Unfortunately they were beaten by St Francis Xavier and were knocked out. All students represented our school well and showed the qualities of a good sport. We would also like to thank Steve for coming along and helping us out on both of the days
