Staff V Students Basketball

Challenge Accepted

Monday the 4th of September, saw the much anticipated Staff v Students Basketball match. Following the display of one of the all-time best hype-videos at last week's assembly, it was time for the chatter to stop and to let the players’ actions do the talking.

It was new recruit, Mr. Wright, in the number 23 guernsey, who opened the scoring, leading people to question whether he was hired for more than just his teaching ability. Zac Dally looked dangerous early, giving the students hope and at the first break there was only one shot in it.

CRT, Mr. Severino, added some life to the game when he checked in halfway through the second quarter, immediately draining a three pointer with his first shot of the match. Mr. Sev went on, racking up the points and getting plenty of steals along the way, leading to students lording him a “hero”.

The students then turned to youth, substituting off some of the Year 12s and bringing on some young guns. These included Annie Kehoe, Ella Kerr, Riley Burril, Cooper Cahill and Tom Lyons.

However, Jackie’s hustle, Mrs. Fisher’s work on the rebounds and Miss Hughes' ability to sprint forward on the breakaways, all contributed to the staff leading at the half time break.

Mr. McClure inflicted further pain on the students, dominating the third quarter. When interviewed post game, he said, “all I know how to do is score”. The students did offer some resistance, with Ben Peacock finding his rhythm, consistently hitting his mid-range jumper.

Despite the students best efforts, the staff managed to walk away with the win, restoring balance after being defeated by the students during the Dodgeball match two weeks ago.

The final staff v students clash will take place early in Term 4, with the sport yet to be determined. However, there are rumours Principal, Karl Schier, is pushing for a re-run of the Basketball match after missing out on this one. Stay tuned.
