Dear Parents/Carers,

        2023 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS 2023)

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 14 August to Friday 8 September 2023.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. We will communicate these survey results to parents / caregivers / guardians through our annual reporting and newsletter updates from our Principal Class Team.

We also have set up a bank of iPads with instruction cards in the admin office for you to complete the survey when you drop by the office. Kay or Julie can guide you along if need be.

Last year, we used the survey results to enhance our schoolwide implementiaton including and not limited to:

  • embed sustaining channels of school-home communication,
  • provide additional supports to promote student attendance,
  • better engage students in their learning,
  • plan clearer secondary pathways as our students work towards their desired post school options.

All families will have received an email with the PCGOS survey link, PIN number and other details to provide you with immediate access. We are also happy to send through a hard copy of this information in a sealed envelope if need be.

Please contact to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Professional Learning Communities

At JSA, classroom teachers participate in a professional learning community (PLC) each week, to support teacher collaboration, sharing and ongoing critical investigation of teaching and learning practices.

Teachers have begun their next cycle of inquiry focusing on moderating a range of student work samples to make consistent and comparable judgements, to inform Semester 2 goal setting.

During the moderation process,  teachers interpret and identify how and why students have or have not grasped key concepts, to identify future interventions and to align those judgements against the Victorian Curriculum.

In the next few weeks, they will be moderating student work samples against the following Curriculum Learning Areas:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Reading & Viewing
  • Writing
