Principal's Report

Sporting Excellence

Greensborough College has excelled on the sporting fields this year and the past term has been no exception. You will read the bumper report in this issue of the newsletter celebrating our students’ performances at local and state level.  Our success is attributable to our highly credentialled Athlete Development Program, our expert coaches and committed and dedicated teachers.  We deliver a fully mandated Physical Education Program from Years 7 to 10, VCE Physical Education, VCE Health and Human Development and VCE/VET Sport and Recreation.  Our programs are engaging, relevant and take a wholistic approach to developing the student athlete. We are proud of our programs and our achievements. Our school was recently mentioned in The Age as a State School with a sports excellence program, evidence that the story of our ADP and Health and PE programs is compelling and far reaching.

We have topped off the term by conducting our annual “Footy Colours Day” and “RUOK Day?” The teachers and student leaders conducted a fantastic program with Year 7 and 8 students that saw them out, on a glorious sunny day, on our vast sporting fields participating in a range of activities. The energy and buzz were great.

It is this time of the year when Australian Rules Football is prominent locally and nationally. Congratulations to our local football teams and to our students and families who are involved in these teams. Many local teams have won premierships and some are playing in Grand Finals this weekend.

My own local football club achieved a first premiership for our senior women’s team and an Under 10s premiership as well.  Once again, my favourite AFL team (and that of many students at Greensborough College) Collingwood, is playing in the best round of the year – the Preliminary Final – the people’s round and I hope they can go further this year and take out the flag!

To all of our students and families who participate and volunteer in sporting teams and clubs throughout the year, I wish you all the best and I know your community thanks you for all that you do to ensure clubs and people are thriving.

State School Spectacular

We are also developing our programs in the Performing Arts space. As you know we had our annual School Production and annual Concert earlier in the term and I shared with you what fabulous events they were.

Last Saturday our students performed in the State School Spectacular at Rod Laver Arena with thousands of students from around the state.  Sixteen students performed in the mass dance of the show and one student was a member of the technical crew, working behind the scenes.  They were supported by their families and friends and many Greensborough College students who were in the audience.  The rehearsal program was conducted over two terms and I would like to thank the following staff members who ensured that our students had this great opportunity. Meegan Triance coordinated the program here at school and she was supported by Anthony Ellul, Kami Gillick-Lewis, Callum Harber, Georgia Coutts, Harry O’Neil, Stella Ramos, Kirrilly Simmons and Mal Williams. You will also see a report about the event in this newsletter.

In 2024 our performing arts program will be enhanced further with the Music Development Program running from Years 7 to 12.  Our VCE students will have their first opportunity to study VCE Music.  We will also be offering a Dance elective to Year 8 students and Drama will continue from Year 7 to 10.  We plan to run a production as well.

Congratulations to all of our student performers for your commitment, dedication and passion this year.
