As teachers and students we often ask “where does the time go?” and Term 3 has certainly been a busy one.

Our Year 12 students will be on the road to revision as the HSC exams approach. I would like to congratulate our Year 12 students on the successful completion of their courses this term. This is to time to reflect on performance in the Trial HSC and develop a study program that will ensure students are well prepared for the exams ahead. Year 12 students are encouraged to complete past papers and seek feedback from your teachers.

Students in the junior and senior school have recently received their certificates for the Australian Geography Competition 2023. A huge congratulations to the following students who achieved distinctions and high distinctions this year;

Sophie Arendse, Amaziah Argent, Oliver Bartholomew, Tycen Bedford, Abygail Mesina, Henry Bowie, Ethan Hull, Angus Potter, Annaliese Star, Utsav Sapkota, Felix Tebbutt and Patrick Wenban.

Special mention to Lily Arendse (Year 10) and Alexander Austen-Young (Year 10) who achieved Top 1% results this year. Their results were remarkable and reflect results that placed them in the top 1% for their year group across the country. Thousands of students, from both private and public sectors, enter the competition each year and it is pleasing to see Henry Kendall High School more than hold its own against the best Geography students in the country.

Students also achieved their results in the Australian History Competition and the HSIE Faculty is pleased to announce that the following students achieved distinctions and high distinctions in this competition.

Samuel Whight, Lily Arendse, Alexander Austen-Young, Jessica Bewley, Ella Brunsdon, Ashton Catton, Ty Creek, Ethan Hull, Madeleine Parker, Angus Potter, Mitchel Topp.

Henry Kendall High School was also played host to World War I Living History this term. Year 9 History and Year 11 Modern History students enjoyed a presentation that explained soldiers’ experiences at the Western Front. Our presenter, Shane, commented on how engaged our students were throughout the presentation. Our HSIE staff were justly proud of the insightful comments and questions asked by students. Special thanks to Summer Moes who was our soldier for the day.

Huge congratulations to our Stage 5 Commerce students on completing their Running A Business task this term. Students ran a series of stalls – offering sausage sizzles, pancakes, ice creams, hot chocolate and chocolate coated strawberries, lollies and soft drink. Our students have raised over $800 and this will be donated to Legacy. This is a group that provides on-going support to young families and widows after the death or injury of a member of our armed forces. I would like to thank Miss Cassandra McLennan for her commitment and organisation of this valuable learning experience for our students.
