Year 7

This term Year 7 dug into Rockfest, a Science and Geography topic that looks at processes within the Earth such as weathering, erosion, layers of the earth, fossils, origin or rocks and how they occur. Rockfest is an interesting project, as it is the first time Year 7 has the freedom to plan the unique way they would like to present their work - will it be a live volcano? A model? A quiz? It was wonderful seeing how each team chose to present their work.

Each class had a fortnight of introductory lessons, sampling each of the six possible topics before they picked the one area they wanted to be an expert on. From there, pairs worked together to plan, research, design and revise their Rockfest Presentation. We’ve had a strong focus on communication and research skills this term, helping students to learn how to research and take notes, and giving them time in class to regularly practice speaking on their topic. This all culminated in our Rockfest event where teams set up their stalls and taught their guests about their topic with an interactive, hands on display. Thank you so much to all the families who could make it, it was lovely to share our learning with you.

Year 8

This term Year 8 hosted a Medieval Fair. Pulling together their scientific knowledge around medical advancements from the past, and their historical knowledge of the Middle Ages they created entertaining and interactive displays about Medieval England. We had jousting tournaments, a Medieval food court, plays about witch trials and animal trials, roaming medieval medics, blacksmiths and so much more. We were proud of the initiative many of the teams took to research deeply, presenting historically accurate costumes and activities.

We look forward to hosting the fair again next year.
