Year Advisers Reports

Years 8, 10 & 12

Year 8 are nearly through their second year of high school and what a rollercoaster it has been. This term has caused so many emotions and lessons to be learnt. I've seen many tears, we've had many laughs, but most importantly I have seen so many smiles.

Some exciting things that happened this term included the Medieval Day, where Year 8 got to showcase their learnings and presentation on all things Medieval. From food, to bow and arrows, to necklaces and to games, they had it all. It was so nice seeing everyone dressed up in their costumes and the amount of effort put in from the students but as well as the teachers, Mrs Woodland, Mr Herring & Mr Hoole, was outstanding. It was so nice to see familiar faces around, and come pack up time, Period 5 Year 8 were well and truly exhausted.

Later in the term we had R U OK day and a celebration assembly on the one day. Firstly it was so amazing to see so many Year 8's receiving Bronze & Silver Awards. It goes to show how amazing our year group really is. During lunch and Period 5, the team in Student Services managed to pull off a music festival, where there were food stalls, mental health stalls, face painting, and a stage full of music acts. I heard there was an amazing headline act, filled with teachers, where the teacher of the Bongos really showed her true musical talent.... It was such an amazing day, we even had a special appearance from Kairavan Selvarajan, Benjamin Humphrey, Tycen Bedford, Samuel Whight, Harrison Jeffrey, Amaziah Argent who performed Mr Bright Side, with the help of Mia Clarkson on the sound team.

Towards the end of term, many tears were shed as it came close to examination period. It is daunting when numerous assessment tasks are due at the same time, and it becomes a juggling act if they are not started until the night before. The best advice I can give is as soon as you receive an assessment notification, begin the task and seek advice from you're teacher if you are not sure what to do. Year 8 is such a massive change from Year 7 and it's time to build some independence and remember it is all a learning curve about how to manage numerous subjects at once, while most of all enjoying the ride.

Enjoy the school holidays everyone, see you next term.

With the end of the year fast approaching it is hard to believe that Year 10 only have 10 more weeks left of their junior schooling left. This term has been busy with many different sporting, academic and wellbeing events, and of course the very important organising of senior jackets!!

I would like to welcome our new student, Mia Van and her family to the school this term, Mia is settling in very well.

Students this term had the opportunity to put their hand up to be a SRC member for 2024. Congratulations to our 6 representatives: Sydney Andrews, Lily Ardense, Ethan Hull, Pavania Pathak, Caleb Perkins and Angus Potter.

All students had to apply, sit a panel interview then speak in front of all Year 10 for a quick 30 seconds stating why they should be their representative. I was very proud of how well all four students completed this process and cannot wait to see what they do for our school community in 2024.

Next term will be a busy term for Year 10 with many assessment tasks at the beginning of the term and the three-week Stage 6 Prep Program from Weeks 7 to 9. During this time students will have a taste of their Stage 6 subjects, workshops to help with study and life beyond school. There are also fun activities and the excited PBL Make-a-Movie! An email with more information will be sent out early next term, and more information will also be posted on our Year 10 Google Classroom.

As we finish this busy term, I remind Year 10 to take time out to relax and recharge these holidays, remembering to eat well, sleep, and take time away from the screen. Looking forward to another great term for the last term of 2023 and their final for Stage 5.

Well done, Year 12! You have graduated and now the end of the HSC is almost here! The past couple of weeks they have been celebrating the end of thirteen years of schooling. They’ve done so by opening letters they wrote themselves last year; playing staff vs student soccer and volleyball; dress up days on Monday – Wednesday (themes were: first letter of your name, when I grow up, movies/tv/books); a bbq breakfast and activities such as slip and slide on the oval on Wednesday; and their graduation ceremony on Thursday. It’s been a bitter-sweet time of much deserved celebrations but it’s sad to say farewell to such a great bunch of students.

Luckily, it’s not completely goodbye yet, which is great because as I proved with all of the tears at Graduation, I’m not going to cope well with it. Here is what’s coming up next term for Year 12:

  • Wednesday 11 October: HSC Exams Begin
  • Paying $25 for a copy of the Yearbook by 11 October
  • Sign out day on Wednesday 8 November (all fees and textbooks and library books must be returned by then)
  • The formal on Wednesday 15 November at Crowne Plaza, beginning at 6.00pm. Cost is $110 per ticket, which must be bought by Friday 13 October.
  • Celebration morning tea: after results are released on Tuesday 14 November in the admin block courtyard from 11.10am

Year 12 are reminded that these next few weeks are the chance to significantly improve their potential results by studying effectively for the HSC exams. They can do so by attending holiday workshops held at school, creating a realistic study timetable and sending practice responses to their teachers. We believe in every single one of you to achieve your absolute personal best!

Finally, thank you for being the best group of people, so much so that it made your graduation an incredibly emotional day but also one of the best ceremonies of all time (no bias…). The last few weeks have included some of the most fun times and it’s all because you. Thank you.
