Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7 have had a very strong finish to the end of Term 3. They have worked extremely hard in ensuring the Year 7 Key Actions have been improved across the year group:

  • Empathy,
  • Teamwork,
  • Resilience,
  • Responsibility and
  • Gratitude.

Term 3 has had an abundance of big events, and Year 7 have played a big part in each of them.

The last few weeks have seen some significant key events, including the induction of the Student Representative Council for 2024. I would like to congratulate Kira Norman, Dylan Sweeney, Georgia Peritsch and Alexis Carta on their induction into the SRC. All girls were successful in the interview phase for their roles, and I am confident they will represent our year group with confidence and enthusiasm.

During Week 8, I had the privilege of viewing the Year 7 Rockfest projects that they had been working on all term. I was blown away at the quality of their group projects, how they were able to work successfully with their peers and the high amount of knowledge that all students had in relation to the focus for the project.

Week 8 also ended with the yearly Henry Kendall High School's celebration of R U OK Day. This is an extremely important day on the school calendar and the Year 7 cohort thoroughly enjoyed the activities and celebrations that were apart of the day.

I couldn’t be prouder of Year 7’s achievements that have concluded Term 3 and I encourage all students to continue to focus on their learning and behaviour working towards a well-earned break.

It has been a pleasure working with Year 7 this term.

Well done to Year 9 for another great term! We had lots to celebrate in Term 3.

This term we had lots of Silver Awards for students receiving Sentral points for their contributions in class and around the school. Congratulations to Jemimah Galbraith, Maxwell Orr, Richard Pollard, Ewan Van Tubbergh, Annileise Paterson, Lucca Squires, Shine Jeong and Gracie Kenny.

Congratulations to the following students who performed at Central Coast Showcase Night in August at Laycock Theatre and in the school MPC on RUOK day in September: Jayden McDonald, William Hunter, Charlie Willcox, Nicholas Venuto, Lachlan James, Jhalaena Butao, Evgenii Mikhalchenko, Maxwell Orr, Thomas Harrison and Ryan Hill.

Well done to the 24 students who made it into the STAR Program. These students spent a day in Week 5 training to be peer support mentors for the Year 7 students of 2024. Later this term we will meet those future Year 7 students and our 24 peer support mentors will be helping them transition into high school in Term 4.

Enjoy your break and stay safe! We’re looking forward to seeing you all in Term 4 🙂

WOW WOW WOW!!! I cannot believe that Year 11 have finished their Preliminary Course. Time is certainly flying. This time next year, we will be graduated and preparing for the HSC Exams. Approximately, only 4 terms, 40 weeks and 200 days to go. I am super proud on how well Year 11 have conducted themselves over the past 3 terms in Stage 6.

On Wednesday 6 September, Henry Kendall High School held its annual Investiture of School Leaders. This year was particularly special because our School Captains and Prefects were inducted. Our School Captains: Ava Trundle and Utsav Sapkota. Prefects: Amelia Stevens, Iona Jeannot and Millie Potter. Unfortunately, Utsav was unable to attend the Investiture due to illness. However, I would like to congratulate all students who have been elected to represent our school. I know you will be amazing leaders.

During Week 9 and 10, Year 11 sat they end of course exams. This is their first major exams. The students have conducted themselves extremely well in a stressful situation and have tried their best. Exams are never easy, but they have persevered through them and have performed well.

During the holidays it is Self-care September (Self-care isn't selfish, It's essential) and Optimistic October (Actions to help you focus on what really matters). This is a time to work on your mental wellbeing. Below are some exercises to try over the break:

Week 1:

  • Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
  • Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
  • Free up time by cancelling any unnecessary plans.
  • Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn
  • Write down three things you appreciate about yourself.

Week 2:

  • Take a small step towards a goal that really matters to you.
  • Start your day with the most important thing on your to-do list.
  • Be a realistic optimist. See life as it is but focus on what’s good.
  • Remind yourself that things can change for the better.
  • Look for the good in people around you.

Upcoming events:

  • Monday 9 October: School resumes (Week 1)
  • Tuesday 17 October: Year 11 into Year 12 Interviews (Week 2)
  • Wednesday 13 December – Friday 15 December: Camp (Week 10)

Have a restful and enjoyable break. Stay safe and be kind to others and yourself. Remember

“Self-belief is the secret to success”.
