Breakfast Club

In Term 3, Student Services has been running Breakfast Club every Thursday morning from 8:15am-8:45am. Breakfast items have been donated from Bakers Delight West Gosford and Kellogg’s; and are available for all students who need breakfast. The program is designed to benefit young people’s health and wellbeing by improving nutrition and eating habits, improving readiness to learn and cognitive function, enhances engagement and productivity in the classroom and it gives the opportunity for young people to network and build on their social skills.

Top Blokes Program

Top Blokes Mentoring Program is a program for male students aged 14-17 years. This program is being delivered for several of our students this term and uses a prevention and early intervention framework to provide an environment that fosters critical thinking so they can build self-efficacy and the skills to lead healthy and safe lives. Fifteen  Year 9 boys are currently half way through the program and doing a fantastic job.

Raise Mentoring Program

Fifteen of our young people from Year 8 and 9 have been participating in the Raise Mentoring Program. Mentoring improves a young person’s ability to bounce back after stress and enhances recovery. Mentors help young people to increase confidence, adapt to new situations, develop coping skills to deal with adversity and overcome challenges. We are so encouraged to see our students engaging and thriving in this program for their second time.

The Strength Program

The Strength Program will be facilitated this term for some of our Year 7 students. The program addresses self-care, emotional development, goal setting, problem solving and provides a space for young people to connect with their peers.

The Cooking Program

Five students from Years 7 and 8 are participating in the Cooking Program this term. The Cooking Program is designed to give young people a chance to develop crucial life skills and network with young people experiencing similar challenges in life.

RIOT (Resilience in Our Teens)

Henry Kendall High School has embedded the Riot Program across school structures this term. The program helps to ensure there is a whole-of-school cultural change to addressing anxiety, improving school attendance, and improving student engagement and performance.

Every Wednesday during roll call, students will be encouraged to participate in and engage with short teachings around building resilience and strategies to support young people experiencing stress and anxiety.

There are still spots available in the Parentshop – Parent Webinar. Usually valued at $100, it is free for Henry Kendall High School parents. If you would like to secure a spot in the online webinars, please contact Mrs Hoole.

Wear It Purple Day

This term we celebrated Wear It Purple Day at Henry Kendall High School. It is an important day on the school calendar, advocating for and empowering our LGBTIQA+ community. As a school we celebrate and promote the value of diversity and inclusion. It is important we continue raising awareness about sexuality, sex and gender identity and challenging harmful social cultures. As always, the cake decorating competition was fiercely contested between staff and students. A huge congratulations to the reigning champions, the HSIE Faculty.

R U OK? Day

On Friday 8 September, Henry Kendall High School students recognised the importance of R U OK? Day @ HKHS. R U OK? Day is our National Day of Action where we are reminded that every day is the day to ask, 'Are you OK? ' and start a meaningful conversation whenever you spot the signs that someone you care about might be struggling with life. By educating and encouraging people to take the time to ask, 'Are you OK?' in a genuine authentic manner and listen to the reply with an open mind, we can help people struggling with life feel connected and supported.

The morning started with a celebration assembly, and a very powerful presentation by Ava Trundle and Millie Potter. All students are to be congratulated for their respect and kindness on the day. During Period 5, we had special guests, RYSS and Headspace at the school.

A big thank you to the SRC who ran a range of stalls including food, drink, mindfulness coloring and decorating. Also, CAPA for the sensational music! The day finished with the famous staff band, who rocked out and had the crowd singing along.

Our wonderful Student Support Officer’s, Mel Gould and Olivia Walton did a marvelous job, alongside the Student Services and SRC team.
