Japanese Calligraphy Workshops

It is fun opportunities like this that really make being a Nossalonian a great experience! On the 2nd of August, my classmates and I got to have the pleasure of a second calligraphy workshop with Junko Sensei. We got to paint the Kanji ‘shuppatsu’ which means departure or journey. We first got to practice painting it on a practice piece of paper and then after a few tries we got to use proper paper to paint the real thing. The best part for me was when we were practicing the Kanji and my friends and I were enjoying ourselves very much. Overall, I think it was a very good experience and would love to do it again soon!

Reyansh Bansal - Year 9

As part of the Japanese Year 9 Curriculum, the Nossal cohort embarked on a journey through the world of Japanese calligraphy, where we drew the Japanese character 'shuppatsu', meaning journey or departure. The Year Nine Japanese students touched the tip of the iceberg of Japanese History when drawing/painting this Kanji character and through this we felt a closer connection to the Japanese language and the artistry within this culture. Overall, it was an enlightening experience and it was special to uncover more about Japan and its tradition and heritage.
