Nossal's Big Band Awarded Gold at Victorian School Music Festival

The Victorian School Music Festival is a fun and entertaining learning experience where you can watch other school bands perform and then receive feedback from an experienced conductor on how to improve your instrumental skills and skills as a band. On Tuesday the 15th of August, Nossal’s Big Band, conducted by Ms. Sally Haworth went to Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the festival along with three other schools. We performed three pieces, Blues For You by Mark Taylor which featured a solo by Nathan Bu on the baritone saxophone, Distant Ridges by Kris Berg, featuring a solo by Hadar Flenner on the alto saxophone and Gotta Luv It by Steve Wiest, featuring a solo from Andy Kratky, also on the alto saxophone. All the schools performed exceptionally well on the day, and at the end of our performance we were given a GOLD award for our band! Everyone played really well, and we’d like to think of the gold award as a highlight for the year 12’s who are moving on from Nossal next year. I really enjoyed the experience myself, as it was both enjoyable and an engaging learning experience, and I am looking forward to performing at next year’s big band VSMF.
