Principal's Message

A message from our Principal

Dear Families,

It has been a very exciting fortnight at Wyndham Vale Primary school! Several of our Grade 6 Summer Gala Teams made it through to divisionals, our Grade Ones had a St Johns Ambulance incursion and Foundation entertained us with a spectacular performance at Assembly on Monday. Not to mention all the fun had the Book Parade and Father’s Day afternoon.

Fathers’ Day Stall

A BIG THANK YOU to all the Parents and Friends who volunteered their time at the Fathers’ Day Stall on Thursday and Friday last week. There were lots of big smiles as students left the stall with gifts for their dad or special person. I am sure there were lots of spoilt dads on Sunday.

Also a big Congratulations to our three Fathers’ Day Raffle winners!

 Amaira 1A, Hermione 2B and Jack 3G

Foundation Father’s Day Afternoon

It was great to see so many dads and specials guests come to school last Friday afternoon to spend time with our Foundation students. There were lots of dads wearing beautifully decorated crowns and lots of balls being kicked, handballed, and chased out in the yard. A great start to what I am sure was a wonderful Fathers’ Day weekend for many.

Book Week Parade

Well done to everyone who dressed up for the Book Week Parade last Friday. It was great to see so many amazing costumes and so many families attending the parade to support their children. There were lots of smiles as students took it in turn to parade their costumes to the beat of some great music. More photos can be found under the School News Tab.

R U OK Day

A CONVERSATION CAN CHANGE A LIFE

Inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with something in their life.

You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th Students will learn about the importance of checking in on others and will be involved in many different learning experiences to learn more about this significant day.

Wear a SPLASH of Yellow

On Friday 15th September, the school will have its usual out of uniform day BUT this time we are throwing out the challenge to wear a SPLASH of YELLOW to show your support and awareness of R U OK Day. Please, no open toe shoes or bare shoulders for safety reasons.

Toilets

Lately we have had several incidents of students messing up the toilets, breaking seats and emptying soap dispensers. This is very disappointing as it makes the toilets a very unpleasant place to visit and it takes valuable time from our maintenance crew who have to clean or fix the facilities so they can be used. We have addressed this issue with students and would like the support of families to share the message of keeping our toilet facilities hygienic and safe. We do ask that if any student comes across an issue with any of the toilets that they alert a teacher so we can ensure the issue is fixed and students can access clean and workable facilities.

Reports

Term 3 Student Reports will go live on Compass on Tuesday 12th September at 4pm.

Is your child moving to another school in 2024?

As you may be aware many new schools have opened or are opening in 2024 in the Wyndham Vale area. Some parents/carers may wish to move their child to a new school which may be more convenient for your family. We encourage all students to attend their local school and will provide support to ensure a smooth transition for your child to their new school. Government school zones help to distribute school enrolments across local areas. Of course, if your child is currently enrolled at WVPS they are welcome to continue their Primary School education here with us should you chose to do so.

Your designated neighbourhood Government school (referred to as your local school) is generally the government school closest to your child’s permanent residential address.

To find out which designated neighbourhood school is your local school please click on the link below and remember to select 2024 as the enrolment year:https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/

If your child will be moving to a new school in 2024, can you please click on the link below to complete a short survey to assist us in our planning for 2024.

**Please note that if you already have children at our school, we will accept any future siblings.

No dogs on school site

Please note that we do have a therapy dog on site but beyond this no other dogs, regardless of size, are permitted within the school grounds.  Signage on the school fence line confirms this.  Our school community is aware of Wynston, the therapy dog, and he is trained about how to react with a large group of people.  We cannot guarantee that for any other dog.  Note too that many people fear dogs, even the small ones.  For these reasons we ask that these dogs are kept off the school grounds, and away from the gate so that people can enter and exit easily.

Early Finish-Last Day of school

A reminder that on Friday 15th September, school will finish at 2:30pm. Children will need to be collected almost half an hour earlier than usual. If you are unable to collect your child at this earlier time you can make a booking with Big Childcare, they can be contacted on

 0403 280 852 or wyndhamvale@bigchildcare.com

The canteen will be operating as usual.

Parent Opinion Survey Closes in 2 days!

We only have 37% of surveys completed so if you were one of the randomly selected families, PLEASE complete the survey so we can make informed decisions about our school. And don’t forget to screen shot and send in your completed survey to be in the running for a $100 Gift Card.

Have a great weekend.
