School Visits: Building Smooth Transitions
We are excited to share an update on our ongoing efforts to ensure a seamless transition for our students. We have been actively engaged in visiting our feeder schools to facilitate a smooth transition process for Year 9 students going into Year 10. These visits, designed to familiarise students with our school environment and are currently in progress and are set to conclude by the end of this term. Additionally, preparations are underway for Year 6 into Year 7 visits, which involve collaboration with feeder primary schools. We are committed to completing these visits by early Term 4, ensuring our new students feel confident and excited about their transition to our school.
Learning Profiles: Tailoring education for excellence
Our transition meetings have proven to be invaluable in gathering essential learning information about our students. These meetings provide us with a platform to gain insights into students' interests, learning preferences, and potential barriers to learning.
We are currently in the process of meeting our students from Year 9 into Year 10 from our main feeder schools- Baden Powell P-9, Tarneit P-9 and Truganina P-9. The data will also allow us to create Individual Education Plans that cater to each student's specific needs. Additionally, it will aid us in designing elective units that align with students' passions and interests, allowing for a truly personalised learning experience.
Subject Selection Timeline: Charting Educational Pathways
As we move forward, we are excited to share our plans for the upcoming subject selection process.
We have been meeting with providers such as Wyndham Tech School to work in partnership to offer innovative subjects and programs that allow students to expand their knowledge and inquiry skills in the areas of STEM. In particular, we looked at the use and study of VR, liveability and sustainability, gaming, robotics and much more to deliver rich programs for our students.
Additionally, we are in the process of developing a mini prospectus that will provide an overview of the elective subjects on offer, along with potential educational pathways. Student subject selections are scheduled to take place in Term 4, and where we provide you with all the information you need to support your child's decision-making. Stay tuned for more details, as we will be hosting an information night for families on October 31st, where we will provide further information into the subject selection process.
Early Commencement of VCE Subjects: An Exciting Opportunity
In partnership with Virtual Schools Australia, eligible students will have the chance to start VCE subjects early. Students who are eager to engage with this opportunity will go through a selection process to ensure readiness for this advanced curriculum. We will be sharing more details about this opportunity through an optional information Webex session in Term 4. We believe this initiative will empower students to pursue their academic passions.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Warm regards,
Sandale Ambegoda| Assistant Principal Teaching & Learning
