Year 1 News

From Karen, Year 1 teacher

Book Week

We had so much fun in Book Week this week. It was great to see all the students dressing up as book characters, and shared their favourite books with others. Leading up to Book week, we had been busy transforming the Year 1 level space into fairy tale land. We read a wide range of fairy tales, such as 'The Little Red Riding Hood', 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', 'Cinderella', and 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The students then created their own fairy tale characters, written hybrid fairy tales , as well as engaging in a variety of craft activity related to these stories. We have also read Dreamtime stories, such as 'How the Kangaroos got their tails', 'How the Birds got their colours'. Students also had the opportunity to create their own fairy tale throughout the week. They learned to revise and edit their writing to make it better.

Other Learning Areas - Incursion

Our incursion began with Bollywood infusion, where the students learnt Bollywood dancing. We then had African drumming, where the students had the opportunity to play on the Mbira drums. Lastly, we had Chinese Fan dancing, where the students had the opportunity to learn fan dancing moves. The students had a lot of fun during the incursion!
