School Attendance and Punctuality

From Adrienne, Acting Assistant Principal

Every minute counts at school

In the spirit of transparency and shared responsibility, we bring to your attention some important attendance data. Last week, our school community saw a positive shift in class attendance with reaching an average attendance rate of 92% across both campuses. This progress stands as a testament to the efforts of our students, families, and staff.

However, within this broader context, it's important to address an ongoing issue of arriving to school on-time. Analysing recent data, in the past week, 192 students arrived late, over the course of our four-school day week, averaging approximately 27 students arriving late per day.

Every minute counts at school - missing only 5 minutes a day equals 25 minutes of learning per week which is 5 days per year.

Why it is important to arrive to school on-time:

  • Timely arrival ensures that students make the most of their learning opportunities, participating fully in all scheduled activities and respects the learning time of others.
  • Punctuality instils a sense of responsibility that extends beyond the confines of the classroom, shaping our students' character. The art of managing time is a life skill that preparing students for future challenges.
  • Punctuality is an embodiment of respect for our peers, educators, and the learning process, fostering a harmonious environment.

At NMPS, we value learning above all so encourage all families to arrive to school on time.  However, we recognise that unforeseen circumstances can occasionally lead to delays, and if this is the case a parent or guardian must sign their child in at the office, students are not permitted to sign themselves in.
