Science Week

From Kim & Mike, NMPS Community Engagment Committee of Practice

Parent Scientists in the School

August 12th to 20th was Australian Science Week, and to celebrate we invited parent scientists in to share their passions with their children's classes.

We had a fantastic turnout across the year groups, with students learning amazing things. Activities varied across the school, with career presentations, looking at geological samples when assessing mine safety, making pizzas to learn about yeast science, applying plaster casts to learn about exothermic chemical reactions and even learning about epigenetics! We saw various collections of rocks, minerals and insects being shared, and so many questions were answered patiently and clearly.

Thank you

The NMPS community wants to say a huge thank you to everyone involved. The level of thought and preparation that went into these visits blew teachers and students away, and really showed how varied and fascinating a career in the sciences can be!

Call out to share cultures, skills and passions

This year we want to continue to build connections with the wider school community through celebrating cultures, skills and passions. If you missed out this time, or loved the idea of sharing something you care about to enhance the learning of students, we want to hear from you! In the coming days the Community Engagement team will be sending out a Google Form link via Compass. If you have a profession, hobby or link to the wider community you are happy to share with the school, let us know through the form and let your child's classroom teacher know.
