Word origins

By Esther, Student 3B

The Year 3 students have been studying words and their origins as part of their Writing program. 'Literally: Amazing Words and Where They Came From' by P. Skipworth and N. Stevenson was the text that inspired the student 'WordArt' activity. Each word had to be designed with the origin or meaning of the word embedded in the art, as well as a focus on publishing. The Year 3 had a lot of fun creating their 'WordArt' and were very proud to share their pieces with their peers and parents at Open Classrooms.

Being an Upstander

From Ari, Year 3 teacher

On August 18 was National Day of Action Against Bullying. Each Year 3 class read the book ‘The Invisible Boy’ where students engaged in a thoughtful discussion around how the main character felt at certain times in the book and what caused these feelings. The discussion led to students creating strategies that they can implement to support people around them who may feel excluded, targeted or bullied so that they can become an UpStander not a ByStander.
