Year 5 Excursion to Scienceworks

5A

On the 25th of August, Year 5 went on an excursion to the Scienceworks Museum. We all laid back and watched an animated film about seasons and why we have them in the Scienceworks Planetarium. We saw a documentary on what the sky looked like at night time and we watched as the planets came and went throughout different stages of the night. There was a sports section which had lots of activities and history. We even tried to beat Cathy Freeman’s running time (2 sec) and race each other in the wheelchair Olympics! There also was an area where you could design a future car. Year 5 had lots of fun playing around and exploring Scienceworks!

Hi, I’m Marley and I’m Tilly from 5B, and this is our experiences from Scienceworks. Two weeks ago on Friday, the year fives went on an excursion to science works. We spent time in places like the Planetarium, Sports area and Think Ahead. Here are some of the things we’ve learned;

The Earth spins on its axis, a slight tilt that creates the seasons as it revolves around the sun. We also learned that if the Earth wasn't on a tilt, we wouldn't have any seasons. That is why our axis is so important. Not only that, we also got to learn about some star constellations such as, the teapot, scorpion, southern cross, koala on a tree,  etc. After that, we got to spend time in the Sports area, where we raced Cathy Freeman, weighed ourselves, tested our hand - eye coordination, played footy and netball and so much more. We could go on, but overall, we had an amazing day!

We all headed over to the bus, it towering over us. Everyone was buzzing with excitement, as we ascended up the tall bus stairs. When we arrived we climbed stairs the size of mountains to reach the sports centre. There were running races, wheelchair races and so much more! It was so easy to get immersed in the mindless fun and want to stay there for all eternity. When the teachers said it was time to leave, everyone was groaning and begging to stay for longer. But all changed when someone mentioned the word Planetarium. Everyone rushed to the door and lined up as quickly as they could, all hoping for a good seat in the show. They talked about seasons and star gazing which was all so fascinating. Recess break couldn’t end fast enough for anyone as the think ahead room sounded absolutely mind bending. Everything was so puzzling. The illusions were so puzzling they made me want to question the world as they were so obvious yet not at all the same time. At the end of the day we went back to the sports centre just for the pleasure of it.
