CURRICULUM FOCUS
This week, the students will continue learning about “Mass” while exploring heavy and light objects within the classroom.
VOCABULARY
Mass: how heavy / light something is.
Heavy: something with a great weight
Light: something with a low weight.
Hefting: guessing the weight of objects by carrying them.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Ask your child to find two objects around the house (something they can comfortably hold on one hand). Using the hefting method, ask your child to identify which item is the heaviest and why?
For example:
The can of drink is heavier than the tv remote because my hand goes closer to the ground when I am weighing them. I know that, that means the can is heavier.
