Exciting News and Progress from 5/6C!

5/6C is thrilled to share some wonderful highlights from our class. Our students have been actively engaged in various learning adventures, and we are excited to keep you in the loop.

1-The Crochet Challenge and Charity Drive

In the spirit of creative learning, our students have delved into the art of crocheting. They have not only learned how to crochet a chain but also gained essential skills such as hand-eye coordination, knot tying, finger stitching, and perseverance through practice. Miss Cambareri initiated a unique challenge during the holidays, where students were encouraged to craft as many 30cm strips as possible. The outcome was impressive, with one student even achieving a remarkable 103 chains! What's more, these chains will be assembled into a creative blanket to be donated to a charity chosen by the students. To enhance their persuasive writing skills, the students will research local charities and present compelling arguments to sway Miss Cambareri's choice. We look forward to blessing a local charity and improving our creativity and writing skills!

2-Exploring the World of Electricity

Our young scientists have embarked on an exciting journey into the realm of electricity. Collaborating in groups, they recently conducted experiments using batteries to illuminate a light bulb. The hands-on experience has been illuminating in more ways than one, igniting their curiosity about the world of circuits and power.

3-Diving into Government Systems

An important aspect of our curriculum includes learning about various government systems worldwide. From Democracy to Republic, Monarchy to Dictatorship, our students are gaining insights into the diversity of governance structures. As part of this learning, they have created an engaging classroom display and a graphic organiser to visually represent their newfound knowledge.

We are proud of the commitment and enthusiasm our students have shown in their learning pursuits. We invite you to share their accomplishments by taking a look at their crochet progress, electricity experiments, and the captivating government systems display.

Unleashing creativity and learning with Ozobots: Exploring the tiny tech wonders!

Our Year 3/4 students at Brooklyn Park have been diving into the world of coding using innovative and engaging robots called Ozobots. Through hands-on activities, our students have discovered the power of coding with coloured markers, realising that the sensor light on the Ozobot is crucial for collecting and transferring data. We have also explored online coding platforms, where our students have learned to program their Ozobots to follow specific instructions. With a deeper understanding of how blocks are used to build information, our students have embraced the endless possibilities of coding and are ready to take on new challenges in the world of technology! Watch out, world! Our students are 'bot' to take over the coding scene with their Ozobot skills.

They have very small brains, but they work well. - Liam

They don’t listen to your commands, if it’s not clear. - Anastasia

They have glitches if the codes are too hard for them to process. - Coopah

The Ozobots won’t follow commands if the colours blend together. - Rebekah

I’ve enjoyed learning about different types of artificial intelligence (A.I).  - Zac

The Ozobots are so cute, I’ve loved watching them respond to my codes! - Annmaria

Ozobots follow the colour instructions and go where the black line leads them. - Ashley

This term I have really enjoyed using the Ozobots. My favourite thing about them is that you make codes with special pens. The Ozobot then reads the code and listens to my commands! - Josh

Aladin et la lampe magique - French Puppet Show

On Monday 7 August, our Junior School students from both campuses had the opportunity to watch a bilingual French/English interactive puppet show.

The Carousel Theatre, which came especially to us from Melbourne, gave our students the opportunity to enjoy and understand the diversity of culture and tradition around the world through the bilingual French/English interactive show of "Aladin et la lampe magique." The students had an exceptional experience of participating and using their language skills with no inhibitions.
