Creativity takes courage....Henri Matisse

Hello RHPS Artists,

What a big start to term 4!

Our Prep and Grade 1/2 artists are learning all about the art processes of the wonderful Eric Carle. There was beautifully textured painted paper everywhere!

These have been used to make caterpillars for the preps and owls for the Grade 1/2s.

There has been lots of reading while we used the stories, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Busy Spider as our inspiration. The junior schools cutting, tracing and gluing skills are amazing!

The Preps have now moved onto using ink and droppers to mix up colours to make butterfly wings and the Grade 1/2s are showing their skills using wool and yarn to make fabulous spiderwebs. These art pieces will all be on show at our annual art show on November 28th.

Our senior school has been busy with the Grade 5/6s taking on their clay projects for the year which consist of learning how to use slab techniques and turn these into clay castles. I can’t wait to see these castles glazed.

The 5/6s have now begun their cartoonify self-portraits and are already looking amazing after only one session.

Our creative Grade 3/4 artists have glazed their clay bobble heads and are also working on some very special self-portraits. They have been learning to draw a face in proportion with very simple features and are turning a favourite memory into an image for the background. These are going to look beautiful at the art show.

It is also that time of year where we will be entering a few student’s artwork into the Lilydale and Yarra Valley Show Art Competition. I had a wonderful group of teachers come and select a variety of artworks to enter. These students will get a message from me very soon to let them know they will have artwork up at the show. This year's show dates are November 18th-19th.

We have our annual Art Show and Carols Night (Christmas Extravaganza) coming up in week nine on Tuesday the 28th of November!

We hope to see you all there to help us celebrate our students amazing creativity and see them perform in the Christmas Extravaganza.

Have a fabulous week and KEEP CREATING!
