From the Principal

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky. The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,  Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.  If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields.

On Friday our entire school gathered for a Remembrance Day prayer service. The children participated respectfully as we prayed for peace and remembered those who served for Australia and in other lands.  May God hear our prayers.

This year at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th Month let us all pause, Let us give thanks to the peace we all enjoy in Australia and be grateful. Unfortunately there are far too many places where families and children suffer today. Wars tear people apart and the images are heartbreaking.

This Remembrance day, let us give thanks and let us pray for those not at peace in themselves, in their families, in their lives, in their country and in their world. Let light extinguish darkness. It starts with us. The torch be ours to hold.

Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

We will remember them

Lest we forget

Twilight Market 2023

The Thursday after Melbourne Cup day was a glorious evening for our annual St Francis de Sales Twilight Market. Right on cue, the clouds parted and the sun beamed down on us. Like clock work the stall holders arrived one after another to take up prime positions around our grounds. With building works complete, we could spread out across the grounds from the community garden and all the way to the basketball courts where food vans gathered.

The beautiful night drew a steady stream of visitors from school and local community families. There was a lot to see and do from bubble making at the Lynbrook Community stall to getting your nails painted at the Mini Vinnies stall. There were plenty of stalls to check out for a special gift for your self or an early Christmas gift. There were plants, ear-rings, candles, crafts and even a fancy peeler to check out. All that shopping was sure to make you thirsty or hungry. There was no shortage of food vans  for dinner, a drink, a coffee and a dessert.

Music filled the air from keyboard to piano accordian to our very own SFS school choir with a sensational performance conducted by Kristy. We were very proud and impressed by the effort of so many of our very own enterprising students who had their own stall.  So good to see so many past pupils and families drop by and say hello. From all the positive compliments I heard, everyone had a fabulous time and there was such a wonderful vibe.

We thank everyone who dropped by to support our Twilight Market and an extra big thanks to all those who organised a stall and supported our school. Thanks to our P&F for all their support running the delicious sausage sizzle. Special thanks to Rachel for her magnificent coordination of this big event in our school calendar and thanks to all our staff who were there to support in a multitude of ways. The success of the event is due to the support generously given by so many. We are proud and grateful for our fantastic school community, staff and students.  Let's make it even bigger and better in 2024. Lock in the date and get organised for our 2024 Twilight Market on Thursday 7 November!
