Sharing the planet 

 

Central Idea: 

Unleashing creativity and imagination: exploring surrealism. 

 

Lines Of Inquiry: 

  • Artistic techniques: Artists use surrealism to create imaginative and unconventional artworks. 
  • Animal Surrealism: We use surrealistic techniques to depict animals in unique and imaginative ways. 
  • Expressing Ideas: Surrealism can be a tool for expressing ideas, emotions, and stories about the world around us.

Students Will Create: 

  • Animal mix collage/illustration: Applying effective drawing skills to capture detail, tone and form inspired by the Surrealist movement. 
  • Landscape design print: Using bold designs of nature to make a print background to add illustration to and cut into a Bell Jar. 
  • Endangered animal sculpture: Incorporating imaginative design and effective modelling skills. 

 

Japanese

Central Idea:

People form communities depending on their needs and resources.

 

Lines Of Inquiry:

  • Different communities (school communities).
  • The way Japanese school communities' function.

Learner Profile Attributes:

Students Will: 

  • Say and write “ My name is...” , “ I am ...years old.” and “ I eat …(for lunch).” in hiragana, katakana and kanji. 
  • Send a letter to Arakawa Primary School. (the sentences above) 
  • Compare school lunch in Australia and Japan and tell similarities and differences between the two countries. 
  • Tell how Japanese school lunch is prepared and provided at school. 
  • Tell how local communities are involved in the school lunch system in Japan. 
  • Describe tastes of foods using Japanese adjectives. 

Music

How we organise ourselves      

 

Central Idea:   

Effective organization and communication are essential for expressing ideas and ‘stories’ told through music.   

  

Lines Of Inquiry:  

  • People depend on one another in order within a performance group. 
  • What roles are needed within each group? What happens if some members in a group forget their responsibilities? 
  • Performance pieces rely on the implementation of strategies.How do we communicate and collaborate during the music lesson?  How do we decide on instruments or sounds to use? 

 

Key Concepts

  • function – helps us understand the purpose and role of each person in a performance group.  
  • connection: understanding that the effort put into music making, can contribute to the connection of the audience to the performers/performance.

Students Will:  

  • Work on formal notation (including chords). 
  • Create a class band.  
  • View songs that tell a story and learn about ‘Musical Pictures’. 
  • Prepare for our Aussie Flavoured Christmas concert.

 Physical Education

How we organise ourselves 

 

Central Idea:  

Effective organization and teamwork are essential for success in physical activities and in our daily lives. 

 

Lines Of Inquiry: 

  • Strategies for effective teamwork- how do we communicate and collaborate during PE activities? 
  • There are consequences of disorganization - what happens when a team lacks organization during physical activity? How can disorganization lead to challenges in achieving goals and in real life scenarios. 

Key Concepts:  

function – helps us understand the purpose and role of organization and teamwork in PE activities and how these can enhance performance. 

responsibility – encourage students to take responsibility for their roles in a team and how this relates to individual accountability in a team setting. 

 

Learner Profile Attributes: 

 communicator and principled 

 

Students Will: 

  • Develop game sense and more complex movement skills within game situations using the skills they have previously learnt. 
  • Focus on using knowledge of games, working in groups and awareness of rules, tactics and equipment. 
  • Focus on Newcombe, Orienteering, and Ultimate Vortex (Based on Ultimate Frisbee Game). 

Library

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the library. The focus is on reading for enjoyment, interest and information.

 

The children also have the opportunity to practise their borrowing skills and further their love of reading. 

 

The library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information.
