VIT News- Monitoring Teacher Registration

Under the Education Training and Reform Act 2006 (ETRA 2006), employers must ensure an individual holds the correct form of registration for the setting they are teaching in.  For the school sector, teacher registration or permission to teach (PTT) is required.  Individuals who hold a non-practising registration cannot undertake the duties of a teacher.

The Employer portal allows schools and early childhood services to monitor the registration of teachers, recommend provisionally registered teachers for full registration and support applications for permission to teach.

At least once a term, it is good practice for principals to include periodic checks of the Employer portal to ensure teachers remain registered and are not approaching an expiry date.

The last quarter of the year is a good time for schools to perform periodic registration checks. Please visit the VIT Monitoring Teacher Registration for tips to guide you through the process.
