The Japanese  Word of the Fortnight

ねむいです(pronounced ‘nemui des’) which means ‘sleepy’ is the Japanese Word of the Fortnight for Week 6 & 7 of Term 4. At times, you can’t help yourself feeling a bit sleepy possibly because you may not have had a good night sleep. It is a handy word to remember!

Thank you / ありがとうございます (pronounced ‘aligatoh gozaimas’) for your continuing support for our Japanese program.

WATER SAFETY - GRADE 5

Last Tuesday, the Grade 5 students headed out to the Monash Aquatic Centre to learn and explore a wide range of water-safety techniques.

At the Centre, the students were accompanied by a group of fun and knowledgeable instructors who helped develop our understanding of how dangerous the water can be and how we can respond to these dangers appropriately. From learning CPR, to the extreme conditions that high winds can bring, the students were exposed to a variety of scenarios that they were expertly guided through.

Overall, it was a successful day, filled with new learning, excitement and  tonnes of fun!

On the 24th and 25th of October, the Grade 3s participated in a hands-on reptile incursion, relating to our ‘Living and Non-Living’ unit that we are currently exploring in Science. The students were very enthusiastic and highly engaged throughout the incursion.

Students had the unique opportunity to meet, hold and interact with a variety of fascinating animals that are found in various regions across Australia. The experience not only allowed them to learn new facts about these creatures but also provided students with a platform to share their existing knowledge with instructors Sam and Scout, who guided them over the two days. The animals the students got to investigate were stick insects, green tree Frogs (or “dunny frogs”), a Murray River turtle, a Frill Neck Dragon, an Olive Python, a Stimson Python and a Saltwater Crocodile.

A great time was had by all!
