This Week's Updates

Dear Families,

I hope you were all able to enjoy the beautiful weather Melbourne served up over the weekend and on Cup Day.

What a sensational evening it was last Wednesday when we all got together to celebrate our school Twilight Sports. Congratulations to Coughlan, Gold House on their narrow win over second placed, Lyons, Geeen House.

Thank you to the Year Four Champions who organised the food and drink for the evening. Those burgers were great! Thank you to all other parents who volunteered to help out. Kylie mentioned many of you in the P & F Newsletter.

Thank you to the staff and Year Six students who led the evening for the rest of the school. The main thank you goes to Catherine Wall who put many hours into preparing and practicing with the students as well as putting the program together so that it ran like clockwork AND perfectly to time.

Celebrating our Maternity Leavers Friday 10 November

We have planned a special celebration for our four staff: Tess Odgers, Jess Moffatt, Siumi Kirby and Molly Masters, who all commence maternity leave in the final few weeks of the year. This will take place this Friday 10 November following our Remembrance Day Prayer Service, which students are invited to bring along a flower from their garden to help form our whole school wreath.

Parents are invited to attend both of these celebrations.

Approximate times are as follows:

Remembrance Day Prayer Service 2.15 - 2.30pm

Maternity Leave Celebration 2.30 - 3.00pm

Parent Education Evening: "Helping Me Help My Child's Wellbeing"

Maria Ruberto is a clinical psychologist with over 23 years experience. Her application of psychology is anchored by research in neuroscience and brain function – and framed by the science of optimism. Maria is delivering an educational session for all our St James parents on the evening of Thursday 16th November 7.00pm - 8.30pm here in the Community Centre. We encourage all parents to attend.

School Closure Day Friday 17 November

The staff will be onsite working with Maria Ruberto in the morning and commencing 2024 Big Picture planning in the afternoon.

We have organised for Camp Australia to offer day care for students but so far the interest is very low. Unless they get a minimum of 8 enrolled students they will need to cancel the care. Please register your children by Friday if you wish or need to use this service. Often part days eg: mornings are useful.

Celebration of Visual Arts

The Years Prep to Two students have been working very hard over the last semester on their art skills. On Friday 10th of November parents are invited to come and see their children’s artwork displayed in the Multi Purpose Room from the Visual Art lessons this semester. The viewing times are as follows 1:00-1.pm or 3:20pm-3:30pm.

We hope to see you there!

Prep to Year 4 Swimming Program

School Advisory Council

Next and final meeting for the year is on Tuesday 14 November at 6.15pm.

With a few members moving on after their three years on the SAC, we are calling for new members from our school community to join.

We usually meet 6 - 8 times a year 6.15 - 8.00pm. If you are interested please email me

principal@sjvermont.catholic.edu.au

Swimming Lessons Prep - Yr 4 commence on Monday

Next week our Prep to Year Four Students will take part in a nine day Swimming Program at Knox Leisureworks. All the information regarding swimming has been shared with parents via Operoo. Please ensure to read over these details carefully to ensure that your child brings everything that is required for swimming.

Parish Fete News

Please see the Fete News page and volunteer some of your time. As you will remember when you signed your children up to join St James, you committed to being part of our parish community which is a very rewarding experience. It is an expectation that all families give up some time to commit to helping at the fete. I know some workplaces provide a day of leave for volunteer work. Some parents may wish to consider taking this day on Friday 17th November to help with the Bump In, or Sat 18th Bump Out or even Sunday 19th at the Clean up Working Bee. The Fete Committee are able to provide a volunteer certificate if required.

THANK YOU TO FAMILIES WHO HAVE DROPPED OFF A LARGE BLOCK OF CHOCOLATE FOR THE "LOB A CHOC STALL" AND BAGS OF LOLLIES FOR THE "LOLLIE STALL."

THIS IS ALSO A REMINDER TO OTHER FAMILIES THAT IDEALLY WE HAVE ALL DONATIONS (one of each per family) DROPPED TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE BY THIS FRIDAY PLEASE.
