Hello from our teachers and students

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

Hello from Foundation Grade 1 Quarrier in Room 10

Our students have been very busy over the last few weeks participating in some extra curricular activities. Our Grade 1 students attended their first school camp, a sleep over at school. We had lots of fun before bedtime including playing games, eating pizza and watching a movie. Breakfast the next  morning was yummy too!

All students at school have been participating in swimming this week travelling to the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Eaglehawk each day. We have LOVED going swimming but it has made us all super hungry and tired. We are looking forward to having a go on the water slide on Friday for our last lesson.

LITERACY

We have been working on our writing by adding extra details to engage our audience. Here are some recounts of the Grade 1/2 sleep over.

We have also been working on rereading our writing to make sure that it makes sense. We are even experimenting with editing our writing, adding in capital letters and punctuation. Here are some recounts about our swimming lessons.

NUMERACY

Each week in maths one of our class members gets to take home our classroom estimation jar.

We look at a group of objects without counting them and are asked to estimate how many there are. We use our existing knowledge to make an educated assumption and then we sort the objects into groups. The groups must be  easy and efficient for us to count, usually groups of 5 or 10, to check how close our estimations were.

We are getting very good at making an educated guess and estimating how many objects are in our estimation jar. We have been placing our smallest and largest estimations on a number line to determine the range of our estimations. We do this by skip counting along the number line, usually by 10s and 1s and then adding our jumps together.  This helps us calculate the difference between our estimate and the actual amount in the jar.
