This Week’s Reads

As the primary classes delve into the world of literary genres, I saw an opportunity to blend the eerie and spine-tingling horror genre with the Halloween season. This week, we're immersing ourselves in a diverse selection of books to celebrate the spooky spirit.

Kindergarten - are consolidating their understanding of Fiction by reading ‘Scary Night’ by Lesley Gibbs and ‘How to Catch a Monster’ while looking for clues that they know can’t be real (ie: fiction).

Stage 1- will be learning about the origins of Halloween (do you know that it didn’t start in the United States?) and then reading ‘The Night Knights’ by Gideon Sterer. It’s a great story about all the things we scare ourselves with at night.

Stage 2 - is delving deeper into the spooky/horror genre and learning about the features found in these books. They’re reading the first couple of chapters of one of RL Stine’s Goosebump series and then viewing the movie trailer. I also look forward to you seeing their genre artwork in the coming weeks. When I told them that it involved Crocs, they were hooked!

Stage 3 - are going a little deeper into the horror genre too and looking at some of these scary stories we have in the library. Like Stage 2, they’re reading a short story from RL Stine’s new ‘Stinetinglers’ book. There might even be some fun activities as well.

Book Club - Closing Wednesday

Don’t forget that the Term 4 Book Club is closing at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, 25th October (week 3). If possible, we ask that families place their order online as this ensures they come faster to the school. There is also an option to select items in your order as a gift so we can hold these for you to collect later.

Once again, there is no pressure to purchase. Thank you for your support of this program throughout the year, the credit we've received has allowed us to purchase more books for the library for students to enjoy.
