Performing Arts Highlights

Year Prep

The Achilles and Xenica communities have been developing a basic understanding of the music element of tempo (fast and slow). Students have explored this by responding through movement, voice and instruments to match sound stories. They have also been responding to different sections of music by using colourful scarves.

Year 1/2

The Argus, Luna and Ulysses communities have been learning about different music elements, such as tempo (fast and slow) and dynamics (loud and soft). They have been developing their understanding of tone colour by classifying the different sounds they hear. Students have enjoyed singing chants, playing rhythm patterns and using props such as ribbon wands to match the music elements.

Year 3/4

The Apollo and Icarus communities are exploring the music element of timbre with identifying long and short sounds. They used their voice and instruments to express different sounds to a song called, ‘In a Dark Wood’. Students also responded to the sounds through movement and created graphic notation.

Year 5/6

The Monarch community have been planning, rehearsing and performing musical pieces as ‘foley’ artists. They have expressed their creative ideas in small group collaborations and presented their music compositions to the class. Students reflected on their ability to use music to match the different scenarios.
