STUDENTS EXCEL IN CHRISTIAN MINISTRY AND THEOLOGY
By Bryce McDowell (Gravitate Coordinator)
Twelve of our students recently completed their Certificate 3 in Christian Ministry and Theology through the "Gravitate" VET program.
The achievement was celebrated in a heartwarming ceremony held at the MST venue, where proud parents joined to witness this significant milestone. The students, who are currently in Year 11, showcased their growth and maturity throughout the course, and their dedication to their faith was evident.
Several team members led the worship music, adding a spiritual touch to the event. It was a moment of great pride as they received awards in recognition of their hard work and commitment.
These students have not only gained knowledge but have also grown as genuine followers of Christ, and the school community should be excited about the leadership these students will provide in the coming year. Bring on 2024!
SECONDARY MULTI-PURPOSE COURTS
By Peter Cliffe (Principal)
We're excited to share the progress of our secondary multi-purpose courts! The first photo from July 2022 shows their original state. With the addition of a roof and a new surface, the area has been transformed into an amazing sport space for our secondary students. The courts now offer a sheltered and versatile environment for a wide range of activities. We look forward to seeing the positive impact on our students' experiences.
ADVENTURE AND GROWTH FOR OUR YEAR 3 & 4 STUDENTS
By Ugo Torcasio (Year 3 Teacher)
Year 3/4 students have just returned from an incredible three days at Oasis Camp, Mt Evelyn. After a different start on Wednesday at the Convention Centre, all students travelled by bus from the sunny Belgrave Heights to cloudy Mt Evelyn.
Students were encouraged to challenge themselves with exciting activities such as High Swing, Flying Fox, Low Ropes, Candle Making, Archery, and Initiatives / Team Building.
Each activity group formed strong bonds over the course of the exciting camp, building team morale and group work skills.
The High Swing was especially a challenge for students. If it looked high from the ground, it seemed even higher once you were up the top! Being pulled to the top of a 15-metre pole and swinging off may not be everyone’s idea of fun, but for the students willing to challenge themselves and have a go, it was the thrill of a lifetime.
Night-time activities saw the fun continue. Indoor games on the first night and a fire side marshmallows for supper, had everyone laughing and having fun. Well done to all the students who had a go! The next night was movie night and popcorn. Some students were so tired they went to bed early.
Campers arrived back on Friday, exhausted, but happy from a camp that will stay one of their fondest memories of school.
Looking forward to next time!
Prep - Year 2's MAKE A SPLASH
By Louise Cassar (Prep Teacher)
What a great week the Prep to Year 2 students had! Every day last week, they participated in swimming lessons and it was fantastic to see everyone improve in their overall swimming skills and knowledge. From learning how to enter the pool safely, streamlining off the wall and improving their strokes, everyone showed great persistence and bravery! All students should be very proud of themselves! The week ended with a set of rotation activities in the pool and then some free time to enjoy the water and all the new skills they learned!
Thank you to the team at Splashes for their care in helping all students grow in their abilities!
YEAR 11 VISIT SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY
By The Careers Team
Recently our Year 11 students visited the Hawthorn Campus of Swinburne University. The excursion was organised to give our students a taste of university life, enabling them to get a feel for the campus and showing them a couple of learning experiences within the university environment.
Swinburne is an internationally recognised university that partners with leading Australian and global partners to offer students authentic workplace experiences. The university has a reputation for quality education and world-class research as well as cutting-edge facilities that enhance learning.
Our guide, Sam, met us outside the Advanced Technologies Centre and we walked through the campus to a lecture theatre where he gave us an informative introduction to Swinburne University and introduced us to a third year Law/Engineering student, Erfan, who told us about his experience at Swinburne.
We then went on a tour of the Hawthorn Campus in two groups after which we had a short break for recess. Our group split into several workshops - one with a design focus, one that had an event planning element and a law court experience. The Swinburne staff were impressed with our students’ engagement in the activities and we hope our students had a worthwhile experience from the excursion.
