Year 5/6 SEPEP

This term in 5/6 sport, students are participating in SEPEP.

What is SEPEP?

SEPEP stands for Sport Education in Physical Education Program.

This unit requires students to work together to develop, run and participate in a Futsal/Soccer tournament at school.  Students are divided into 11 mixed teams.

Why SEPEP?

We have finished interschool sport so we all know how to be a part of a sporting competition but….. sports events don’t just happen, someone has to organise a lot of things behind the scenes. SEPEP give students a chance to understand and do what is needed so our sports competitions actually happen!

What happens during SEPEP?

Each week, students play another team in a soccer match. The 1 team each week has the role of 'Duty Group'. The duty group is responsible for setting up and packing up for each round, refereeing the games and awarding individual students (the best 4 on the ground) points for sportsmanship, teamwork, encouragement etc.

What are the roles in SEPEP?

In addition to each student playing each game there are a number of other roles that are shared between each team.

  • Coach – Pre game warm ups and drills
  • Captain – Leader during games to ensure students know what they need to be doing.  They also help to make sure their is fair rotations off the bench.
  • Publicist – Each week they need to write up a match review and make sure bulletin board is updated.
  • Referee - Referees the game and decides 4 best on ground players.
  • Scorer - Scores the game and agrees on the final score at the end of the game with the scorer from the other team

The Teams

There are 11 teams: Fierce Hedgehog, Courageous Cobras, Deadly Dragons, Red Pandas, Power Penguins, Raging Red Rockets, Crazy Shreks, Dark Ducks, Flying Monkeys, Lightning Panthers and King Kobras.
