What a wonderful first week it has been for me at Chatswood PS! As I mentioned in my letter on Monday, I feel so honoured and privileged to be joining such a vibrant and strong school community. The warm smiles, good mornings and afternoons, and introductions have all been so welcoming, and it has certainly made me feel very lucky to be here.
The start of the school term is always busy, but as I walk around classrooms, it has been fantastic to see the learning culture of the school. Students are committed to doing their best and are supported by such a dedicated teaching staff. As this term progresses, I want this to remain a focus for our students. Every minute of every day is important, and I place a great deal of emphasis on the effort students display. It is through this effort that we can achieve great things, both inside and outside the classroom.
I look forward to what the rest of the term has in store as I continue to get to know what makes Chatswood great. I will speak in more detail at our upcoming P&C meeting, and I encourage you to join if possible.
Thank you for such a warm welcome.
Last term as part of the Premiers Debating Challenge the debating team participated in the second round of the regional finals via zoom. In the last round we faced off against North Bridge Public School. Our topic was "that competitive spelling bees should not be banned". We took the affirmative side of the argument and fought very hard however, our opposition fought just as hard and unfortunately knocked us out securing their win by a single point. Our group of year 5 debaters are extremely passionate and motivated to take the win in next years competition. We are all incredibly proud of their achievement. Please join us in congratulating the debating team on their success this year.
In Term 3 five of our year 6 debaters attended a two night, 3 day Regional Debating Camp held at the Collaroy Smith Family Conference Centre with over 160 other students from across the Sydney Region. The students were excellent representatives of our school, collaborating with all students, participating enthusiastically and most of all having fun. While at camp we had the privilege of watching the Regional finals between West Pennant Hills Public School and Manly Village Public School. This year Mr Matthews accompanied the students, gaining further knowledge as well as new ways in which to educate our debating team moving forward.
