Monday, November 4th – Special Arrangements for Melbourne Cup Eve

Dear Families,

On Monday, November 4th, the day before the Melbourne Cup holiday, Trafalgar Primary School will operate on a modified schedule. Historically, this day sees very low student attendance, with many families taking the opportunity for a long weekend together before the busy holiday season. Typically, fewer than 10% of students attend, which makes it challenging to conduct regular classes and ensure that all students receive essential instruction.

This year, we have asked staff with accrued Professional Practice Days or time-in-lieu to take leave on this day, helping us reduce any further disruption to the regular school program. Thank you to all families who let us know their plans; based on responses, we anticipate approximately 40 students attending.

For these students, we will run two combined classes:

  • Foundation to Year 2 students in one class
  • Years 3-6 students in another class

A small team of Education Support staff will be available to assist students with additional needs. While the office will be open with a limited team to handle urgent matters, it will be otherwise closed to the public.

We hope everyone enjoys their long weekend, and we look forward to seeing all students back on Wednesday, November 6th!

School Run 4 Colour

The Parents & Friends Committee would like to thank staff and parents, and their friends and family who took part in our Colour Run fundraiser today.  Our fundraising total is still being worked out, but it was clearly a fun afternoon for everyone.

This year the funds raised will be utilised to upgrade the shade sail across the Area 1 playground and update/upgrade all relevant line marking in the school's grounds.  This has been reviewed by the Finance & Facilities Committee, Sports teacher and Principal team and endorsed by School Council.

The fundraising window has closed as of today, but prize selection is still open until Friday 8th November, so get your choices in quick! Prizes will be delivered to school in the coming weeks, and a notice will be put out on Compass to advise when these will be sorted and brought to classrooms.

If you have any feedback, questions, would like to help for events, or would like to join our committee, please contact us on tpspandfsecretary@gmail.com

The Parents & Friends Committee thank you for your support.

Exciting News: Accessible Building Program Grant Approved!

We are thrilled to announce that Trafalgar Primary School’s application to the Accessible Building Program (ABP) grant has been approved, granting us $20,427.50 in funding. This grant will support the installation of five Phonak Soundfield Systems in classrooms, enhancing accessibility and ensuring an inclusive learning environment for all our students.

Exciting News regarding 2024 Mill Valley Camp

We have fantastic news to share! Our budgeting efforts have paid off, and we discovered that we overestimated the cost for the Mill Valley Camp by $26.75 per student. We are thrilled to pass these savings back to our wonderful families.

Over the next couple of weeks, you will notice a credit of $26.75 per student reflected in your family statement. We hope this small windfall brings a smile to your face. Thank you for your continued support and trust in us.

Happy Savings!

PICK  UP  /  DROP  OFF  PARKING AREA

The pickup and drop off area at the front on the school is only available for parents and carers needing a quick collection point for their children.  It has come to our attention that this area is occasionally being used as a parking bay.   We ask that this area be kept free for a quick pick up and drop off point only.  Please be aware that parking regulations are being actively enforced and fines have been issued by Baw Baw Shire Council.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain the effective use of this area.

Safety at School Crossings

Baw Baw Shire is committed to providing a safe environment for all students commuting to and from school. To help achieve this we need the community’s help.

The Role of School Crossing Supervisors

Crossing Supervisors are there to assist children cross the road in safety on their way to and from school. Children may not understand traffic laws or be aware of their surroundings, and small children may not be readily visible to drivers. In Baw Baw, we have over 31 school crossings where our supervisors attend to help kids cross the road safely.

Safety in School Zones

Due to an increase in traffic at drop off and pick up times, both traffic and parking issues can pose a risk to the safety of children. Educating kids and encouraging safe driving behaviour can help improve safety in the school zone.

Please make sure you are always looking out for Children around School Crossings and never stop on a school crossing (within the red and white posts) and never drive through a School Crossing whilst there are pedestrians on it.

Our lost property cupboard is literally exploding at the seams again!   If your child is missing any uniform, please feel free to pop in and look through our lost property cupboard.  Unclaimed items will be disposed of at the end of this term.

Breakfast Club

It has been wonderful to welcome students and families back to Breakfast Club this term!  We have had so many students visit us in the mornings for delicious toasties, cereals and milos to help kick start their learning day.  We are so thankful for the many generous food donations provided by the community and from our sponsors - Foodbank, IGA Trafalgar, Bakers Delight Mid Valley and Gracie’s Bakery.

Due to these donations, Breakfast Club continues to be able to support families through the provision of Care Packages.  We remind families that our Traf Pantry can be found in the Gym Foyer and continues to be stocked with many excellent products, available to anyone - and they’re free!  If you would like to receive a Care Package or know of a family who may benefit, feel free to drop into our School Office, see Mrs Burns or Mrs Marslen.

Donations of Jam and Milo needed, please!

Thank you again to all families who have generously donated tins of Milo to our Breakfast Club.  Any extra donations of Milo, as well as jam would be greatly appreciated to support our school community!

Looking forward to seeing you for brekky!
