Wellbeing and Senior Years

School reunions

October is our ‘Reunion Season’, with Old Collegians returning to College to celebrate their 10, 20, 30, and 40-year reunions.

Each Saturday in October, we have hosted alumni for tours of Myrniong, the Boarding House and the Senior School, and it is always a delight to hear the Old Collegians reminisce about their time here as students.  This year, we had around 110 people come ‘back to school’, and people were travelling from as far as the United Kingdom and America.  Undoubtedly, the Senior School tours take longer for 30- and 40-year-old groups, who are trying to reconcile where their old classrooms, Berry Hall and sports field used to be located.  The school has changed so much; they are in awe of the facilities our current students can enjoy and excel in.

The one part of the school hat that hasn’t changed is the Tower courtyard, where Year 11s now sit at recess, lunch, and the Laidlaw House locker room.  Also, I often hear that the smell of Rooms 5 and 6 is the same and brings back specific memories.

A 50-year reunion was also organised and held in Melbourne. Thirty-four Old Collegians from the Class of 1974 and a teacher enjoyed a whole weekend of catch-ups and sharing stories.

It is incredible to hear of the bonds that remain from their time at College and of the impact the teachers and their peers made on what they went on to do after school. I believe one consistent theme holds accuracy from 1974 through to today: Our students are encouraged to be well-rounded, try new things, and aim high. We may be located regionally, but our alumni go on to do amazing things worldwide.

Thank you to our Director of Marketing, Mrs Alana Brown, for organising all the reunions this year.
