Congratulations to our Ensemble Club for their wonderful performance of ‘The Canoe Song,’ a traditional Canadian folk tune. The students dedicated themselves to mastering their individual parts and came together to create a performance that showcased their own unique interpretation of the piece. Great work!

We’ve been continuing our work on the Acknowledgement of Country, with students learning Keyword Signs (KWS) to accompany key words in the Acknowledgement. These signs are based on Australian Sign Language (Auslan). Recently, students have also been developing their inner hearing—a key musical skill that helps them stay in time with one another. To practice this, we’ve begun removing the spoken words and using only the Keyword Signs, encouraging students to rely on their internal sense of rhythm and timing.

Foundation, Year 1, and Year 2 students have been continuing to develop their ability to keep a steady beat using a variety of percussion instruments. We've been practising walking to the beat, then pausing to play our rhythms on our instruments in sync with each other.

Students in Years 3–6 have been exploring our Sounds and Silence unit by learning and creating with rhythm symbols. They’ve been developing their skills through rhythm dictation—listening to clapped rhythms and writing them within their beat circles. We've also been experimenting with different ways to represent rhythms, such as using whiteboards, stick notation with paddle pop sticks for sounds, and feathers to represent silences. In the coming weeks, students will apply these skills to notate a familiar song they've been working on in class.
