Fun Fridays

Every Friday morning, we invite parents, grandparents and family members to the school playground to spend before school with their child. The wellbeing trolley will be out; there is Run Club from Year 3-6 (parents welcome) and some fierce handball competitions between parents and students. We hope to see you next Friday from 8:15am.

Parent Webinar - The Unplugged Psychologist - Brad Marshall

Last Wednesday, I joined many Holy Family Parents on a webinar run by NSW Government and local councils.

Brad Marshall, author of "The Tech Diet" spoke about ways to manage recreational screen time for children and teenagers.

Some interesting points included

  • when to become concerned about your child's screen time
  • staged smart phone use according to age
  • helping your child learn how to manage their devices
  • the important role of parents in managing screen time
  • how marketing teams target children in apps and games
  • how to avoid the battles with your child regarding device use

My biggest takeaways were the importance of managing the WIFI rather than individual devices and including your child in a daily plan for Wi-Fi use.

If you would like any further information, please contact me at school - we are always happy to assist if you feel that screen time is an issue with your child. The title of Brad's book is "The Tech Diet for your Child and Teen".

Premier's Reading Challenge 2025 Update

At Holy Family we are keen for every child to participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge. This challenge is run each year by the NSW Dept of Education and aims to foster a love of reading in our students.

We have been informed that this year the PRC unit is experiencing many technical issues, particularly with non- government schools.  At this time, all of our new students, Kinder students and some random existing students do not have passwords and user names. We have lodged many tickets for assistance and are trying our best to help correct this problem. All students without access are encouraged to keep a paper copy of the books read and we hope that this situation will be fixed soon.
