Duke Of Ed Overnight Camp

Duke of Edinburgh students recently embarked on their Practice Journey to Warrandyte's Clifford Park. As part of their preparation, they planned and prepared nutritious meals, packed and carried their backpacks on a 13km hike with essential items, then set up their campsite. This comprehensive preparation is crucial for developing self-sufficiency and ensuring readiness for the Qualifying Journey for their bronze award. Throughout the journey, students demonstrated resilience in challenging conditions, showcasing leadership and teamwork. They engaged in activities such as navigation, campcraft, and route planning, which are integral components of the Adventurous Journey.

Quotes from students

It was fun to spend a couple of days with my mates. Angus C

Duke of Ed was such an amazing experience. We laughed, we camped and we hiked through 2 days of treacherous trails. I loved every bit of this journey from freezing in the tents at night and feeling like I was going die from walking up all those hills.   Olivia C

It was a very enlightening experience, I loved walking around and exploring the nature. The break from electronics was a great experience as well. Aarav S

Camp was a great way to learn more and connect with my friends" Joe, A

The Duke of Ed camp was a very valuable experience for me. It was a challenge, however, I had a great time with my friends, working out problems together. I learnt many things on this camp such as the importance of resilience, warm clothing, and eating enough to have the most energy for hiking. We went on a hike to Mount Lofty, which was a tough walk up some steep, rocky hills, but some of the views we saw made the struggles worth it. There were some times when we were walking to the campsite or setting up equipment where it was raining, and although it made the task difficult, it was really great to see everyone working together to get the tents up before it was pouring.'
