National Simultaneous Storytime

Last Wednesday 21st of May, F-6 students participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime. NSS is an annual campaign that supports children’s literacy by encouraging reading in a fun, community event. The Charlton Neighbourhood House kindly donated a copy of the book for each classroom to enjoy, along with stickers and bookmarks. We thank them for their support. As part of our NSS celebrations, students listened to a live retelling of the story ‘Truck Cats’, read by the author. We then worked together to create a collaborative art display, which looks great above the window in Library.

Weekly Wrap: Foundation

The chickens in the Foundation room have hatched! The first two hatched overnight last Thursday, then number three timed its arrival perfectly during our Numeracy lesson on Friday morning. Foundation students have done a wonderful job counting down from 21 days to ‘hatch day’, marking the date on the calendar, and the student leader has been responsible for checking the temperature on the incubator and carefully adding water to it each day. The chicks are incredibly cute, and we’ve loved welcoming plenty of kids from other classes to come and admire them (and some grown-ups too!) Now to come up with some names… Fluffy Bags, Snickers, and Rosie are currently in contention. Thanks again to Harry’s family and Miss Bishop for the eggs and incubator – it’s been an amazing learning experience.

Art:

Foundation students in Art have made a piece of artwork centred around flying kites. Students sponged shades of blue paint onto paper to make their backgrounds. They then looked at images of kites and created their own designs. The final task was to add bright colourful tails. Foundation called the artwork “Let’s go and fly a kite with our family”.

Stay Healthy This Winter 🧼

As the colder months settle in, it’s more important than ever to stay on top of good hygiene habits. With increased time spent indoors and seasonal bugs like colds and the flu on the rise, we all play a part in keeping our school community healthy.

Here are a few simple but powerful hygiene reminders for students and families:

🖐️ Wash Your Hands

Handwashing with soap and water for 20 seconds is still one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs, especially before eating and after coughing, sneezing, or using the bathroom.

🤧 Cough & Sneeze Etiquette

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow (not your hands). Dispose of tissues straight away and wash your hands after.

🚰 Bring a Water Bottle

Staying hydrated helps your immune system. Bring a labelled water bottle to school each day.

😷 Stay Home If You're Unwell

If your child is showing cold or flu symptoms, please stay home to rest and recover—and to help protect others.

👚 Wear Layers

Cold mornings and warmer afternoons mean it's smart to dress in layers. Don’t forget jumpers and jackets are part of the uniform too!

By working together and following these simple habits, we can help reduce the spread of illness and keep everyone feeling their best.

Stay warm and well this winter! ❄️
