EMR Cross Country

On Wednesday 12th June, 42 dedicated student-athletes represented Brentwood Secondary College at the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) Cross Country Championships. This prestigious event, held at Yarra Glen Racecourse (VIC 3775) infamous for its horse-racing counterpart over 40 minutes from Glen Waverley brought together the top athletes from Secondary Schools all over the East of Victoria

Despite the challenging terrain of the racetrack and fierce competition, our students showed incredible grit, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. A special congratulations goes to Edwin Bentley, who delivered an outstanding effort, finishing 3rd in his event, Tom Jackson finishing 7th and Zoe Jackson finishing 4th. These students have all earned a place at the SSV State Cross Country in Term 3, a fantastic achievement and a testament to their hard work and consistency.

We also commend Mackenzie Eitzen and Eva Swilks, who both finished a strong 13th in their respective races - a top-tier result in such a competitive field!

Congratulations to all our runners for not only their athletic efforts but also the way they represented Brentwood with pride and respect. We look forward to cheering on Edwin, Tom and Zoe Jackson, as they take on the best in the state at the next level!

Year 8 Boys Netball Team Compete at EMR Tournament

On Monday 28th July, the Year 8 Boys Netball Team from Brentwood Secondary College proudly represented the school at the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) tournament held at Waverley Netball Centre. The team faced tough competition throughout the day but played with determination, respect, and school spirit.

In a thrilling match against East Doncaster Secondary College, the boys held their ground and secured a hard-fought 11-11 draw. They showed resilience and teamwork despite a challenging game against Norwood Secondary College, which ended in a 14-11 loss. The final match saw them up against Balwyn High School – the eventual winners of the tournament – where the Brentwood boys gave their all in a spirited performance.

Coached by Amani and Sienna, who brought passion and clear guidance to every game, the team showed incredible enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Their positive attitude, respect for the umpires, and support for one another made them excellent ambassadors for Brentwood on the day.

Congratulations to all players (Adam Abdel Aziz, Samuel Davis, Anthony Georgiadis, Ryker Huang, Lian Wei Liao, Alfie Mitchell, Ragesh Ravichandran, Jagger Shrimpton, and Aarav Singh) and coaches for their effort and teamwork – a great day of learning, growth, and representing our school with pride.

Intermediate Boys Badminton

Congratulations to the three Intermediate Boys Badminton teams that represented Brentwood at the recent Monash Division competition!

With each school able to enter three teams this year, the Monash University sports halls were buzzing with activity and excitement.

All of our teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and team spirit throughout the day. Although it wasn’t our year to progress to EMR, Brentwood was extremely competitive in both singles and doubles matches—often pushing opponents to long rallies and forcing them to win by the narrowest two-point margins.

Thank you to our most dedicated student coaches, who inspired our teams, ran training sessions and selection trials, and on the day, officiated many, many matches. Your leadership and commitment played a vital role in the team's performance and experience.

Thank you Jarrod Si, Shreyaj Guha, Farhan Abu Bakkar Sithick and Ken Xie.

We are proud of the way our students represented Brentwood, both on and off the court. Well done to all involved!

PE Footwear Reminder

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This is a reminder that students should be wearing appropriate footwear to PE classes. Students should be wearing sports runners with adequate grip on the bottom of their shoes. PE classes are completed on a wide range of surfaces including, but not limited to, gym floor, asphalt and grass, also in a variety of weather conditions.

Shoes should be worn that allow students to participate safely across all terrain. PE staff make decisions on a daily basis, whether it is safe to complete classes, students need to wear shoes that are appropriate for all scenarios. If shoes are deemed inappropriate, students may be unable to participate. Students should not be wearing street or lifestyle runners to class as these shoes do not provide adequate grip and support.

Please see below images for shoes that are appropriate for PE classes and those that are not appropriate for PE classes.

Kind regards,

PE uniform reminders:

Below are some PE uniform reminders:

  • Years 7 – 9 may wear their PE uniform all day on days in which they have PE. This is made known to students by having GYM1, GYM2, GYM3 etc. for their “room” location. On days where students have Health, they are required to be in their academic uniform.
  • Year 10 students may only wear PE uniform if they are completing either PE elective (Enhanced PE or Sports Science) on the days their teacher has selected for them to complete their practical classes for the week. Students will be given uniform pass cards from their teacher which will list what days these practical classes are on. Students are to carry these card at all times. If a student is in PE uniform on a day that a practical class is not on or cannot present their card then they will receive a uniform chronicle.
  • Year 11 and 12 students are to change into and out of their PE uniforms for periods that they have a practical class. If students have PE in period 1 they are allowed to come to school in their PE uniform and will change at the end of this period. If students  have PE in period 5 they will need to change at lunch time and are permitted to leave school in their PE uniforms. If students have practical classes in period 2, 3 or 4 then they must be changing in and out of their uniforms during that classtime. If a year 11 or year 12 student comes to class in their PE uniform and they do not have a practical class in that period then they will receive a uniform chronicle.
  • PE uniform items can be purchased here - https://www.psw.com.au/schools/brentwood-secondary-college.html?p=2

Competition Sports Uniform

With interschool sport competitions, some teams must wear sports tops with numbers and special-coloured sports socks.  Brentwood provides these tops and socks.  However, sometimes students wear these tops/socks home instead of handing them back to the teacher in charge at the end of the day. So, as you spring clean or change your bedroom layout during the term break, keep an eye out for any missing Brentwood Sport Specialised team uniforms. So, drop them off to the main office or the PE staffroom when you return. No questions asked!

We are hoping for Brentwood AFL jumpers, Soccer/Hockey/Volleyball/Basketball numbered tops, and navy long socks to be found and returned!
