Education in Faith

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C

Gospel reflection from the Gospel of Luke 11:1–13, where Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray using the Our Father, and reminds them that God listens and responds with love when we ask, seek, and knock.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." (Luke 11:9)

In this week’s Gospel, we hear Jesus teaching His friends how to pray. He gives them the Our Father, a beautiful prayer that reminds us that God is a loving parent who listens to us always.

Jesus also encourages us to never give up. He says: Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened. This means we can talk to God anytime, when we are happy, worried, thankful, or even unsure.

God wants us to trust Him like a child trusts a loving parent. Even if we don’t always get what we want, God gives us what we truly need especially the gift of the Holy Spirit, who helps us love, forgive, and live like Jesus.

Discussion Starters:

  • Why do you think Jesus gave His disciples  a special prayer?
  • What does it mean to "ask, seek, and knock"? Can you think of a time you prayed and felt God helped you?
  • How can you show trust in God even when things don’t go your way?
  • What are some things we can include when we pray the Our Father each day?
  • How can you be like the person who keeps knocking — someone who never gives up?

Closing Prayer:

Loving God,Thank You for always listening when we pray.Help us to trust You like Jesus did.Teach us to be brave when we ask, seek, and knock, and to always remember You give us what we need.Amen.

GRADE 5/6 SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM – MINI VINNIES

MINI VINNIES SOUP & CHAT NIGHT

Yes, the Mini Vinnies Soup and Chat Night is on again next term on Tuesday August 26th. The permission note has now been placed on Operoo. I ask parents to please respond, listing any dietary requirements your child may have.

There is also a fundraising aspect to this evening. Sponsorship forms have been sent home with Mini Vinnies and is also available as an attachment on Operoo. I am asking Mini Vinnies to ask family and friends for donations. On the Soup and Chat Evening, Mini Vinnies will decide what organisation the money raised is donated to, in order to assist those that maybe experiencing homelessness at the moment. Last year it was donated to Ozanam House, the previous year to the Vinnies Soup vans.

I have also sent out an Operoo notification asking for parent assistance to provide various donations for the evening: soup, cups, spoons, bread rolls, margarine, fruit and also to help serve on the night. I will contact parents who have offered to assist or donate items the week before to confirm your assistance. A big thank you to parents who are able to help as we wouldn’t be able to run this night without your assistance.

A big thank you also to the staff who have already volunteered to stay behind and assist on the evening.

This evening will also be an action for the Mini Vinnies Action team as they will assist in planning and running the evening.

MINI VINNIES MONDAY AFTERNOON ACTION TEAM

Monday afternoon the Mini Vinnies Action Team decided on the action we will be presenting at the School Conference Event. They decided to present our Winter Appeal action which we just completed last term. Eight Grade 6 Mini Vinnies will be attending as representatives to present our action and Monday they began to work on our presentation for the day.

The rest of the action team began to organise our Soup & Chat Night, writing letters to invite some guest speakers to talk to the group about the various things the St Vincent de Paul Society do to help those less fortunate. While others organised our Community Spirit point sheets and delivered them to each Home Group ready for Term 3.
