NAIDOC WEEK

On Tuesday 29th July, we were fortunate to welcome Aunty Neva and Suzy Barlow (First Peoples Engagement Officer, Campaspe Council) for a special visit.
The students enjoyed a delicious lunch of pizza and juice boxes before gathering to hear from our guests.
Suzy spoke about the various NAIDOC Week activities that have taken place throughout the region, while Aunty Neva shared her personal experiences growing up and navigating the education system. Aunty Neva also spoke about the meaning of Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremonies and Acknowledgement of Country.
We are incredibly grateful that our students had the opportunity to hear firsthand about the history and lived experiences of our local First Nations peoples. The power of lived experience was evident—every student sat in complete silence as Aunty Neva spoke, deeply engaged in her story and wisdom.
We hope all students gained valuable insights from today’s experience, that Indigenous students feel a growing pride in their culture, and that their non-Indigenous peers have developed a deeper understanding and respect for their friends' heritage.
