Wellbeing - Middle School

Affirming our Commitment to Wellbeing

Last Monday, our staff came together for a dedicated Staff Development Day focused on wellbeing, reaffirming our commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for every student.

The day featured a session led on Mental Health First Aid by Kim Huckerby, equipping our staff with the tools to recognise early signs of mental health difficulties in both students and colleagues. Staff were trained in how to respond calmly and appropriately, ensuring that any young person experiencing distress is met with understanding, support, and a clear pathway to help. This training is a vital part of our school’s proactive approach to student wellbeing.

Later in the day, our highly skilled school counsellors led a session on Trauma-Informed Practice, helping staff deepen their understanding of how experiences of trauma can impact a child’s behaviour, learning, and emotional regulation. The session offered practical strategies that teachers can use in classrooms to foster safety, trust, and resilience—ensuring that all students feel seen, heard, and supported.

We know that when our staff are well-equipped and supported, our students thrive. By investing in professional learning that prioritises mental health and trauma-informed practices, we are reinforcing our whole-school commitment to student wellbeing, engagement, and success.

We thank our guest speaker and members of our counselling team, Mrs Samantha Donnelly and Ms Rana Salloum, for their expertise, and we thank you, our parent community, for your ongoing support in building a school culture where every child can flourish.
