Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

There is only a short time left in the Winter season for the Junior School. This weekend we will compete in Round 9, the penultimate round of the season. I wish all our teams the best for their second last round of fixtures. A reminder that Saturday 9 August is the last round of the season after which, all training for Winter sport ceases.

With the end of the Winter season, we hit a small hiatus in Co-curricular sport. Only those involved in Athletics will continue to train and compete in Term 3. Summer sport starts again in Term 4, with all boys expected to fulfill their Term 1 commitment, continuing in their Summer sport teams at that time.

Sport, in my opinion, is one of the great things in life. Something that reminds us that we are alive. Invoking pride, passion and a strong sense of connection and community. However, at times, this can be clouded by poor attitudes, putting winning above all else, and in the professional world, by gambling. These things can quickly strip away the essence of sport.

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of watching the SPC 5F1 Football Team play against Scots College. On a gloomy, cold morning, the boys from SPC 5F1 put in a huge effort. Their commitment to each other (always there to support one another positively), their collective joy in celebrating goals, and rallying around those who made mistakes was truly a reminder of what sport is all about and how it should be approached. Add in the unwavering, inclusive support of the parents/carers, and it was a truly special occasion.

Co-curricular Photos

A reminder for all boys involved in Cultural Co-curricular activities that photos will be taken on Tuesday 26 August (Week 6). Boys will be required to wear full Winter uniform for the photos, minus the blue cap. Please make sure your uniform is in pristine condition for the photos. A timetable for the photos will be put up in each classroom for the boys shortly. Details on how to order photos will come out in later editions of the Especean.

‘Sports are such a great teacher. I think of everything they’ve taught me:

Camaraderie, humility, how to resolve differences.’
