Resource Centre

Wow! The Book Fair was certainly a great success. Thank you to all our families and students who purchased books to add to their own precious libraries.

Book Party time!

Next week we will celebrate our love of books and reading by participating in our annual Character Parade. There will be a number of activities for students in the Resource Centre during lunchtime.

The month of August will conclude with our students spending time with and learning the craft of writing with a published author.

Please see below for further details about what is happening in the Resource Centre!

New Arrivals

Over the last fortnight, we received a delivery of books from Scholastic. These books were purchased with some of the rewards points collected from the two Book Club orders. The addition of these books continue to build our Tiny Timmy, Baby Sitters Little Sister (Graphic Novels) and Baby Sitter Club (Graphic Novels).

June and July Graphic Novel Arrivals

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you for your support for the Book Fair last week. We had several amazing volunteers who assisted from set up to pack down, which included community members, students and staff all lending a hand in the event.

We also greatly appreciate those who made purchases at the Book Fair. These purchases allow us to add new reading materials to the Resource Centre and Primary classrooms. This year we were able to add resources worth $1,700, which was 35% of our total sale of $4,900.

Book Week 2024

The Book Week Character Parade will be held on Wednesday 21 August at 9.00am on the Primary tennis courts.

“Books are a uniquely portable magic”

Roald Dahl, 1 March 2021

It is that exciting time of year, where we celebrate Book Week! The theme for this year’s Book Week is “Read, Grow, Inspire” and is scheduled from Monday 21 August until Friday 25 August. Book Week provides a great opportunity to celebrate Australian literature. As part of the celebrations, students will be able to join in the many activities which will be on offer throughout the week.

Parents and Carers are invited to attend our annual Book Character Parade on Wednesday 23 August at 9.00am on the Primary tennis courts. On this day, students are encouraged to attend school dressed as their favourite book character.

Author Visit - Eleanor Pearson

To keep the momentum going, we will also be welcoming Eleanor Pearson to our school on the 29 August.

Eleanor’s book titled “Reading is not just for bedtime” is her first published work which has recently been nominated for the ABLE Golden Book Awards.

Eleanor is a primary school teacher who currently teaches at a school in Albury.

Please support Eleanor’s visit by purchasing her book.  This can be done by using the QR code on the attached flyer. Eleanor will personally sign all pre-ordered books and deliver them to your child on the day of her visit.

In preparation for Eleanor’s visit, during library lessons this fortnight, students in Kindergarten-Year 2 have been creating illustrations showing where they like to read. The Year 3-6 students have been creating a new scene for Eleanor’s book “Reading is NOT just for Bedtime”. These will be displayed during Eleanor’s visit on the 29 August.

As Term 3 begins, we are winding up the Premier's Reading Challenge. The final date for entering books online is the 23 August.

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10.

Please keep reading books and entering them into your reading online.

You must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Please refer to the Booklist page for more information: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
