Curriculum Expo

On Monday 5 August, we held our 2025 Curriculum Expo. It was an informative and interactive event where students were able to learn more about the diverse learning opportunities available in our Secondary School. Students and their families engaged with Secondary staff from each Faculty to learn about core subjects, electives and co-curricular and extra-curricular offerings. A big thank you to everyone who attended, and to our dedicated teachers and student helpers who made the evening such a success!

Girls Victorian School Netball Championships

On Friday 2 August, 30 selected girls from Years 7-12 travelled to Golden City Netball Complex in Bendigo to play in the annual Victorian School Netball Championships. The Junior Girls team played six games on the day, whilst both the Intermediate Girls and Senior Girls played four games each, all consisting of 7-minute halves.

The Junior Team (Year 7/8) coached by Mrs Brewis were the most successful team on the day, winning two matches, against St Mary’s College (10-3), and St Joseph’s White (12-7), and drawing two matches against St Joseph’s Green (6-6) and Crusoe College Red (5-5). The girls worked really well together, considering they all come from different local clubs and associations. The Junior Girls finished 4th on the ladder (out of 7) in Pool 1 on 12 points. Congratulations!

The Intermediate Team (Year 9/10) coached by Delaney Laffy were able to come away with 1 win, which proved to be the highlight of the day for the girls, winning 11-8 against Cohuna Secondary College. With 11 girls in the team, and some who haven’t played netball before, everyone got to rotate around, and even play positions they wouldn’t normally play on the weekend. This saw Jinaya, the tallest in the team playing in the Centre, and Miller, the shortest in the team playing Goal Shooter! The Intermediate Girls finished 4th on the ladder (out of 5) in Pool 2 on 4 points.

The Senior Team (Year 11/12) coached by Miss James, unfortunately weren’t successful on the day, however, were able to work together well, with the more experienced players stepping up to guide those who have never played competitive netball before. The girls came closest to cross town rivals, St Joseph’s College Echuca, going down by 11 (14-3) in Round 1, and scored their most goals for the day (4) in Round 5 against Cohuna Secondary College.

A big thank you to Mrs Brewis, Miss James, and Delaney Laffy for running tryouts and coaching on the day, and Mr McMahon for organising. Congratulations to all the girls who kept a positive attitude throughout the day and represented MAG excellently.

Netball Victoria School Championships Boys Gala Day

A group of 10 Year 11 boys travelled to the State Netball Centre in Melbourne to compete in the Netball Victoria School Championships Boys Gala Day on Tuesday 13 August. Jack was nominated Captain for the day and gave a motivating pre-game speech as we drove into the Netball Centre. The boys went into the day with a positive mindset, remembering Mr Townrow’s number 1 rule - “we are good blokes first”.

Knowing that the games would be tough, having to come up against some tall, experienced netballers, this didn’t stop the students from giving it their all on the court, ending the day with two draws to Western Heights College (5-5) and St Mary’s College (7-7).

Unfortunately, we left Melbourne without a win, however, came extremely close to Marist-Sion College, losing by just 1 goal (5-6) in Round 1. The boys played a total of seven games (including 1 fire alarm evacuation interrupted game) throughout the day, finishing 7th on the ladder (out of 8) in Pool 2.

A massive thank you and congratulations to Year 10 student Aleisha Moon, who travelled to Melbourne with the boys to umpire throughout the day. We are very appreciative of your enthusiasm and passion toward the game of netball!

Also, a big thank you to Mr Townrow and Delaney Laffy for coaching on the day, and Mr McMahon for organising. Congratulations boys for representing Moama Anglican Grammar with pride.

Year 9 Beacon Pledge

Tuesday's beacon pledge was a great time. Admittedly, I was nervous at first but being able to listen to the speakers and their experiences was inspiring. Noah, Bree, Jack and Jayden all had some great speeches and I think we all learnt some invaluable lessons. But, Beacon isn’t just great to learn from special guests but also from each other. From the very start of the program I have been constantly meeting new people and sharing ideas. I really couldn’t ask for a better place to do it.
